The ‘New York’ Virus Spreads And I Got Pneumonia From It

I haven’t been posting here the last several days to being very ill.  Just came back from the hospital.  These viruses are quite dangerous due to weakening the body and thus letting in very dangerous diseases.  I thought I just had a touch of bronchitis but in the last 24 hours, my condition deteriorated rapidly and this is why I had to rush to the emergency room.

I am running a fever and after sucking oxygen at the hospital and getting emergency medications including something to make me a bit dizzy, tizzy, I am now able to finally sleep again (in the last 48 hours I have had less than 5 hours of sleep!) so it is too hard to write much here.  Will, I hope, be better off tomorrow.  Take care, everyone, this flu season!  Good luck!

Elaine, I was wondering if something like this happened. Glad you got the care you needed and please mend well.

If you can when you are well enough I recommend a pneumovax.

Get well Elaine and take good care. Pneumonia is dangerous stuff. I have the same problem with colds and flus easily turning into worse stuff. I’ve had bronchitis many times and light pneumonia a few times.

  8. Onion

I didn’t get the flu shot this year, big mistake. I was sick for over a week with a fever and was coughing and hacking for another week. The flu is nasty business this year. Get well soon!

I knew something was up. Thanks, for rising up off your pillow to let us know. I got it too and it takes awhile to get rid of it. Be patient, you will recover.

  15. It must be bad. I’ve never known anything to put you out of commission like this. Get well soon.

Here’s hoping for your speedy recovery Elaine. Best wishes…

  17. Cripe, Elaine.
We need to find those old remedies like mustard plasters and onion poultices and things that help draw infection out of the lungs. More lost knowledge.

Stay warm, and get well soon.

A few years ago, I was working in a repair depot, fixing laptops that came in from literally all over the world. During that time, I contracted a strain of strep that simply refuses to go away. (I think it’s lodged in my tonsils, but I can’t afford a tonsilectomy.) Every time I let my energy get low, it comes raging back; we’re talking bright red throat that feels like it’s full of razor blades, and fever that has reached as high as 105. I’ve had great success with oil of oregano, which was recommended to me by my chiroprator. I use the GNC brand; get the stuff in the dropper bottle; it’s much cheaper than the gelcaps, although you’ll need something with a fairly strong flavor to get the oregano taste out of your mouth.

But my best advice is to pay attention to so-called “new age” ideas like blood alkalinity. I’ve found that since I started paying attention to that stuff, I really don’t get sick any more, and I never get flu shots or any of that.

Anyway, I hope you’re fully healed soon!

  19. Very sorry that you are feeling poorly, Elaine. I hope you feel better soon.

  20. Being There

I understand. When I was a kid I used to get bronchitis at the drop of a hat. I haven’t had it in many years, but it can happen very fast!
I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend.

@John: Watch that strep it can end up wrecking mortal havoc on organs (ie kidney-Glomerulonephritis, heart-Rheumatic Heart Disease) My son almost died from strep caused nephritis and a friend had a heart valve go from Rheumatic Fever.

Best wishes and get well soon Elaine.

maestra get well soon, so many things happening in the world which requires your expert opinion and analysis.

  24. Have a good rest, Elaine! And I can second the suggestion for oil of oregano, very useful. Also nice on teeth and gums.

  25. Miss you very much, Elaine….Hope you completely and safely recover soon.

  26. Wishing you a quick and sound recovery

My fever finally broke last night! I finally got to really sleep. Whew.

This was a very close call. Pneumonia is a very deadly disease. Eating the right foods, drinking a lot and resting is not enough, it is a bacterial disease and the drug I am taking for it is actually killing the germs rapidly.

It is a six day regime and isn’t fun to take but I found that if I ate a bowl of fruit jello with bananas in it, it soothed the throat, helped the digestion and gave my body more energy to fight off the germs.

I will begin posting again later today. It is still very hard to type. At least that ‘anvil’ on my chest is gone! I can now lie in bed and do very deep breathing cycles. Which helps greatly now,

  28. DeVaul

Congrats on coming through! We were all worried.

I almost got really sick also, but ecchinacea tea with lemon juice seemed to really help my sore throat. I had run out of the ecchinacea root capsules, so I used some old herbal tea I had left. I think it worked.

Anyway, I have never had pnumonia, but this time I was afraid of getting it after so many became sick around me. I don’t think I would survive it.

Glad you are on the way to recovery. Many people missed you.

  29. z.house

Whew! i was worried , a very dangerous situation.

  30. Sharkbabe

Stop faking and get back to work Elaine!

(Ayn Rand told me to tell you that.)

    Srsly, all good wishes!

  31. tio

Thank goodness, you had me worried.

  32. Christian W

Pneumonia is bad news yes, it can leave scar tissue behind as well :/ Glad to hear you are doing better.

The fever is FINALLY gone! Whoopee!

I can eat food! At least, oatmeal. I picked up a chair last night and it caused me to collapse, I am as weak as a kitten.

Wait! Kittens aren’t weak! They can climb curtains, hiss and box each other’s ears and chase strings all over the furniture and floor.

I wish I was as strong as a kitten.

  35. Lucky13

    Kittens aren’t weak!
Compared to what? A 40 pound badger can fight off a bear.
And the world is running low on Badgers [300 in USA].

  36. hey there and thank you for your information – I’ve certainly picked up something new from right here.
