Storm and Hurricane Information for Buzzards Bay, MA: First a chart by the government scientists, showing clearly that hurricanes have declined greatly in number and intensity ever since WWII. Even with poor data previous to 1900, hurricanes were still more common than today. Nonetheless, the global warmists are on a rampage warning us we will all drown due to global warming causing bigger, more frequent storms especially hurricanes. The selected city to illustrate this is Norwalk, Virginia which is sinking faster than any city in the US except for parts of New Orleans, also built on silt from major rivers.
Here is a typical ‘study’ that admits there is subsidence but has to blame ‘oceans rising due to global warming’ in order to fit into the propaganda stream: Coastal Flooding Mitigation

Our environment is changing and this is resulting in a larger impact with regard to flooding city-wide
Water levels around the world are rising particularly in the Chesapeake Bay areas. There is documentation that tidal waters have risen over the past 100-years and will continue to rise
Also, there is evidence that land around the Chesapeake Bay is sinking (subsiding)
Far from being , ‘also’ the major cause for flooding is nearly entirely due to subsidence! From 2010 is another example of pushing this ‘we are all drowning’ story: NYT’s sort-of-clarity on Norfolk sinking aka “sea level rise” and an inconvenient map | Watts Up With That?
Quote from the NYT: But Norfolk is worse off. Situated just west of the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, it is bordered on three sides by water, including several rivers, like the Lafayette, that are actually long tidal streams that feed into the bay and eventually the ocean.
Like many other cities, Norfolk was built on filled-in marsh. Now that fill is settling and compacting.
In addition, the city is in an area where significant natural sinking of land is occurring. The result is that Norfolk has experienced the highest relative increase in sea level on the East Coast — 14.5 inches since 1930, according to readings by the Sewells Point naval station here…
But over the past decade, people began noticing alarming trends. Hurricanes and nor’easters became more frequent and more damaging.
Nor’easters are not ‘more frequent’. Yes, the damage can increase over time but this is mainly due to people building increasingly year round houses where once beach shanties were built and then rebuilt. Instead, we have multi-story rich people’s mansions on sand dunes. The number of storms isn’t increasing. What is very interesting here is, the east coast in general, is sinking while the west coast is being shoved upwards due to our entire continent moving northwestwards, compressing in the west and sloughing off in the east.
Far from being warmer and warmer, it struggles to be summer: Snow surprise for B.C. communities while Snowfall warnings for northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and Wyoming could see snow this weekend and in South America, hammered by cold weather, Bolivia – Price of meat doubles due to so many cattle dying in blizzards and hail storms. True, it is winter there in the south but this is unusually cold and violent winter there.
It is finally warm again today here on my mountain but the cold wave bringing snow to the northern states is coming here:
Hint: THIS IS A WINTER MAP IN JUNE! This is insane. Obviously, something is wrong and it isn’t warming weather menacing us. Even NOAA has finally, way late, admitted to this and totally altered their ‘year’s predictions’ to reflect the extremely cold weather we have been enduring:
I will note here that the maps still show the Northeast being HOTTER than normal!!! This is crazy. All last year, the ‘year’s prediction’ had the entire east coast ‘warmer than normal to very warm’. It never happened last summer which was relatively cool. NOAA won’t give up.
Also, they now show that the cold which has assailed the Midwest and Canada plain states will vanish this winter and be super warm. Oh, goodie gum drops, forget stacking firewood this summer. Break out the ice box and beer and go swimming in the Great Lakes! Meanwhile, this winter is now going to be super cold in Florida and Texas? That certainly would be hilarious.
Since NOAA has a near 100% wrong record with yearly predictions, I wouldn’t put much faith in their maps.
Back to Norwalk which will be destroyed by the few remaining hurricanes: In Norfolk, evidence of climate change is in the streets at high tide
“We don’t like being the poster child for climate change,” said the Rev. Jennifer Slade, who added that the building, with its carved-wood sanctuary and soaring flood-insurance rates, would soon be on the market for the first time in four decades. “I don’t know many churches that have to put the tide chart on their Web site” so people know whether they can get to church.
On May 6, the Obama administration released the third National Climate Assessment, and President Obama proclaimed climate change no longer a theory; its effects, he said, are already here. This came as no surprise in Norfolk, where normal tides have risen 11 / 2 feet over the past century and the sea is rising faster than anywhere else on the East Coast.
The cold weather people online are making fun of all this in the usual way, by using facts and statistics: Making sense of senseless sea level scares in Norfolk Virginia – 60% of the rise is from subsidence, the remainder from landfill settling | Watts Up With That?
The most important thing to note is that unlike the steeply vertical graph in the WaPo article showing up to 8 feet of projected sea level rise, there is no acceleration visible in either of these two tide gauge graphs. They illustrate the slow, linear, subsidence that Nature has been doing for thousands of years.
So, let’s do the math to see if the data and claims match. We’ll use the worst case value from Sewell’s Point tide gauge of 4.44mm/year, which over the last century measured the actual “business as usual” history of sea level in concert with rising greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. with no “mitigation” done in the last century of measurements.
Their claim is for the “business as usual” scenario: “by the end of this century, the sea in Norfolk would rise by 5½feet or more.”
At the year 2014, there are 86 years left in this century.
86 years x 4.44 mm/year = 381.84 mm
381.84 mm = 15.03 inches (conversion here)
Gosh, 15.03 inches is quite a long ways from “5½feet or more”.
Just like bankers and economists lie about facts, so do climate ‘experts’. This is beyond sad. It is stupid.
