Real fast posting today because I have to snow plow and do lots of work in the freeeeezing cold!  First: all the states in the US are now running in the red except for three.  The shortfall, altogether, is less than we spend in Iraq in one year, occupying the country by military force.  End the war now!  Also, the economic news is awful.  End the wars and bring home all the troops in the world!  And Denninger talks about our total meltdown and he is scary but then, so am I.  His solutions won’t work due to our fiscal entanglements overseas.  And riots are spreading across the planet.

Zimbabwe gave up having money.  We better watch out.  At the rate our gnomes are burning through global wealth, we all might have no ‘money’. Which is probably why gold is now soaring back to its previous highs, already at almost $930 an ounce.  Gold is climbing because the alternative is what?  The threat of devaluation is lighting more than one fire!  We visit Davos, yet again, for a hilarious Schwarzman interview.  This particular gnome finds the losses to be ‘incomprehensible’ even though he, himself, is ‘responsible’.  All we have to do is go back in time to see what I said about him in 2006.  Heh.  Not one kind word, of course.  He didn’t fool me.

Davos, being very far from any cities and being deep in snowy mountains, doesn’t worry about pesky people storming the joint and ripping the people there, limb from limb.  But the angry mobs are gathering across the entire planet.  The Davos deadheads are aware of this and hope these people would just go home and eat cake, damn it!  But they won’t go away.  Not at all.  Arrest most if not all of the people at Davos!  HAHAHA.  They wanted to be the rulers and architects and the House of Mirth they built is a House of Credit Cards and now is on fire, collapsing and blowing up all at once.

This is a photo of a past eruption of Mt. Redoubt in Alaska. It is about to erupt again.  This volcano has had many spectacular eruptions in the past.  It is an extremely dangerous volcano so of course, oil companies built oil storage facilities near the foot of this active, active volcano.  This volcano is less than 150 miles from Anchorage, Alaska. We know from Mt. St. Helens that any explosive blow-off can have a very large killing radius.  More than 50 miles.  And this volcano is larger than Mt. St. Helens.  One thing is certain: these volcanos can cause huge changes in precipitation and temperatures.

Rose museum’s pretty pictures

The ugly Rose Museum of Modern Art at Brandeis University is being closed because it lost all of its funding due to the Madoff mess.  So they are selling all of their ‘art’ in the middle of one of the worst art auction collapses.  Anyone want a painting of a Cambell’s soup can?  Heh.  More proof is pouring out that Madoff started his scam in the late fifties and his mom and dad enabled him up and down and all around the Jewish immigrant community.  And JP Morgan was a big investor in Madoff and suddenly terminated this last August.  Arrest them all.  And Madoff was such a schmuck, he even forced one of his poor flunkies to sign for his Mercedes Benz!

It was much easier to find a useable pdf of Putin’s speech.  Finding one that I could click and drag of Wen’s speech was difficult.  I tried and tried and hit pay dirt with a Chinese posting forum.  Lucy Lee was very generous about posting a useable online transcript of Wen’s major speech.  Like the Putin one, it is important for us to read. One reader of this blog, Fred, sent me a WSJ tidbit that notes:

 The Chinese premier gently, but firmly warned that if Washington and Beijing chose confrontation, both would be losers. But the different tones of the two speeches, and the fact that Mr. Wen didn’t call for replacing the dollar’s role as the world’s reserve currency but regulating it, reflect crucial differences in the important emerging economies.

The crash continues and worsens.  The Republicans didn’t buy the Bank Bail Bill II but then, they only go on wild spending sprees when a Republican is President. Then, become Scrooges when a Democrat is President.  Yesterday, in one of the most important speeches of the 21st century so far, Putin warned the US to not do what we just did.  But perhaps Benanke and Geithner did take Putin’s warnings to heart!  Look at the news from the last two days, concerning the buying of long-term Treasuries.
