CLICK HERE LARGE PRINT EDITION: OBAMA’S FIRST MAJOR ECONOMICS SPEECH « Culture of Life News 2
Obama gave a major speech about the economy yesterday morning. Even as he passes on making even a slight statement about the US-sponsored brutality in Gaza, he does step forwards to talk about our dying economy. He talks about spending in education and spending on roads and ‘retrofitting for a global economy’ by expanding solar and wind energy, which I support 100%. But he never mentions any solution to the outsourcing and offshoring of US jobs. All our Presidents come into office, singing the same song. Despite his calls to try to understand what is causing our demise, he has no analysis as to what is going wrong. Instead, I see all the wrong things getting wronger, outside of the important issue of energy generation and usage.
President-elect Barack Obama said Wednesday that overhauling Social Security and Medicare would be “a central part” of his administration’s efforts to contain federal spending, signaling for the first time that he would wade into the thorny politics of entitlement programs….
Speaking at a news conference in Washington, he provided no details of his approach to rein in Social Security and Medicare, which are projected to consume a growing share of government spending as the baby boom generation ages into retirement over the next two decades. But he said he would have more to say about the issue when he unveiled a budget next month.
In Obama’s speech, he made no mention about ‘reining in’ socialist spending. This is due to the obvious truth that we all want social spending since this is spent on us. If he has to rein in anything, it must first be things we don’t need such as several ugly, nasty wars where we spend virtually every dollar fighting barely armed civilians who happen to desire our exit after we invaded their countries. All of these wars against Muslim civilians, not one of whom has a single boat, plane, tank or WMD, is destroying our currency and killing our budget.
Stopping this is easy: we go away. We cease spending money on bombs to kill Gazan babies or blushing Afghani brides. We just….STOP. How hard is that? Obama should have talked about the military misspending and the wars we are losing. The fact is, the US people have totally lost control of not only our military but our budget PRIORITIES. Congress rushes to wherever AIPAC orders them and AIPAC wants more military spending.
This really, really irritates me because a common online refrain in any ‘liberal’ or ‘Democratic’ forum is the story line that the American Jewish community basically oppose wars and want social spending. But this is obviously not true at all. The Jewish ORGANIZATIONS that have the money and power all want more wars and more military spending. They also encourage increasing social spending while cutting taxes which is why all our Presidents do this so much. True, Clinton balanced the budget. But this was due to to conflicts between a Republican Congress and Senate and the Democratic President. And of course, money pouring into the budget via the Dot Com bubble.
Bush swiftly took care of this by slashing taxes. Instantly, the government resumed running in the red and plumbed the deepest depths of this debt. Generally speaking, at least one House is of the same party as the President. It was unusual that we had a different party running the two branches of the government. In the last 2 years, the budget deficit did decrease again due to the same dynamics only, this time, reversed.
Generally, when there is a unified government, spending goes out of control. People might ask, why did a Democratic House and Senate agree to overspend with Republican Presidents? Well, the Democratic Party, after the Civil Rights Act, had many members who were Democrats out of past habits but always voted with the Republican Party. But this was OK with other Democrats who at least, controlled committees, etc. By Clinton’s day, the last of these fence straddlers moved over to the Republican side, the only one left is Lieberman. Lieberman wants to be a Democrat now because he is a big military-industrial money bagman.
He wants to be a committee head when it comes to spending, of course. The Republican Party’s neo con ‘thinkers’ [sic] talked openly about bankrupting the US so Democrats couldn’t spend on social services. For some dim reason [they aren’t human, I guess] they think this is all very funny. Now, we will go bankrupt and also, Americans will starve to death or die without medical care! Isn’t that precious? Talk about a bunch of traitors.
The game is to force the Democrats to cut food, energy and medicine going to ‘useless people’ who are usually children, the elderly, the disabled and other helpless humans. The Nazis gloried in ‘saving money’ by eliminating the inmates of mental institutions by gassing them and then burning the bodies. They were the very first victims of the Holocaust. Hitler even executed his own aunt who was autistic.
The Democrats will have to pretend to be streamlining things while not doing anything much. But this won’t fix our nation or stop the bankruptcy we obviously face. Since neither the Democrats nor the Republicans want to cut the military gravy train down at all, we must make choices. And just like the media pushes only ‘free trade’ on us, they also push warmongering. This is because we are protecting international financiers and international manufacturers and international speculators. And the Jews who are destroying the Palestinian people. To do all this, we must spend a fortune on the military.
And many US jobs now depend on the military. People who are out of work can get jobs, patrolling Muslims in distant lands, killing children. We can build bombs and delivery systems here and then use them to crush women and children in distant Muslim lands. We can have eternal jobs doing this work. The only problem is, we pay for these bombs via taxes. Certainly, our main customer, Israel, isn’t paying a dime for any of this. The most forbidden topic in DC is talking about this dynamic. This is why AIPAC’s control is all about who is determining our priorities in budgeting tax dollars. The people who flocked to the Democrats this last 4 years are seeking more social spending in America and less military spending. But they are the very same people the Democrats who won, want to hear from.
“Ugly as sin,” says one car enthusiast on an auto Web site. “Can’t we make a hotter ride for our pres?”
“Sheesh,” says another, “why don’t they just transport the president around in an Abrams tank.”
One news agency, noting its 8-inch-thick doors, says the limo can withstand a “direct hit from an asteroid.” But GM spokeswoman Joanne K. Krell laughed off the comments.
All our rulers move about inside of bubbles. Inside that coffin, the screams of either joy or pain are not heard. It is silent inside. Cheney perfected the art of hiding from us. He basically lives in this Cave of Wealth and Death and speaks only to a very few people. Occasionally, we hear grumbling noises from this ghastly gnome’s dark hole. He recently said, if we don’t arrest himself or Bush, this legalizes all their many crimes and also makes all their unconstitutional actions constitutional. So, ARREST THOSE BASTARDS! Come on, Congress, do your job for once!
Instead, Congress rubber stamps more misspending. Will Obama give us access to him? Will he hear us yelling messages? Already, alarmed leftists are thinking about demonstrations around the White House. We have to somehow get through to these guys.
The dollar’s sharp turn weaker into the end of the year is threatening to reshuffle winners and losers in global trade amid the toughest economic conditions in decades.
For countries like Japan and Germany, it is a source of anxiety, since a stronger currency makes exports less competitive as global demand shrinks. For the U.S., it is a more welcome development and might also help counteract declining prices. In some emerging markets, a weaker dollar is a relief for companies that must pay debts denominated in dollars.
Still, in today’s environment, few countries want to be the last one standing with a strong currency. Some economists worry that countries could actively seek to weaken their currencies in an effort to gain an advantage over their trading partners, setting off a round of devaluations that ultimately damage world trade.
This issue is #1 for the US: trade. The value of currencies determines trade. Period. In olden days, like my youth—I feel like I have been around for over 100 years—in my youth, we used tariffs and barriers to control the import/export markets. Then, the free traders convinced everyone that using only currencies to determine trade was the way to go. This was due to the goofy ‘Floating Currency Regime’ created by Nixon and Burns.
This is an utter and complete failure, as far as the US is concerned. Obama, in his speech, made a big deal about education. But we are now seeing all the top ‘educated’ jobs in engineering, computer programming and other fields rapidly flowing out of the US. Following all those manufacturing jobs. We can’t train people for new jobs if all the jobs are being sent overseas! This is beyond stupid. Of course, Obama didn’t mention free trade and how it is destroying our nation. It is not an issue in Congress. Despite talk in the Democratic side about clipping the trade deficit via barriers, the game will be, cutting the value of the dollar. A trick we tried three times in the past and failed miserably.
The failure of the Bretton Woods II, Plaza Accords and Louver Agreement which depressed the value of the dollar vis a vis Germany and Japan, is painfully obvious. Both Germany and Japan, every time the US has a growing economy, have bigger and bigger trade surpluses with the US. Each cycle, they get stronger and we get weaker. The only times our trade deficit shrinks is during terrible recessions, here. This is unacceptable. To control trade via crushing our economy is insanity.
Barack Obama, who deliberately distanced himself from lobbyists during his campaign and his transition, appointed a defense contractor‘s lobbyist Thursday to become his No. 2 official at the Defense Department. Obama acknowledged that his choice appeared to break with his self-imposed rules to keep lobbyists at arm’s length.
William J. Lynn III, Obama’s choice for deputy defense secretary, wasfor at Raytheon Co. and lobbied as recently as last June on issues including missiles, sensors and radar, advanced technology programs and intelligence funding.
Obama has vowed that no political appointees in his administration would be permitted to work on areas that “directly and substantially related to their prior employer for two years.” His transition team said Lynn was worth the apparent exception to the spirit of Obama’s anti-lobbyists policy. It said it will work with Lynn to maintain Obama’s high ethics standards.
“Because Mr. Lynn came so highly recommended from experts across the political spectrum, the president-elect felt it was critical that he fill this position,” Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said.
Look at who gets to oversee Pentagon spending! Not some nasty bookkeeper who is an accountant and who knows what a bottom line as well as a bottomless pit looks like! No, a spendthrift nut who wants to drive us deeper into debt, building military hardware systems that will protect us from Russia and China and all those civilian freedom fighters in distant Muslim lands. Only, all of these are intent on bankrupting the US. Russia had great military systems when it went bankrupt. One of the best missile systems in the world. And it went bankrupt and thus, lost the war with the US.
Well, ditto for us! How hard is this to figure out?
Responding to calls on Capitol Hill for paring back the administration’s Pentagon budget request, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld said today that President Bush would insist that Congress approve all of his proposed $18.4 billion increase in military spending for the coming year.
”We need every nickel of that,” Mr. Rumsfeld said at a Pentagon news conference. ”The president has indicated that defense is a top priority for him, and he intends to be assisting to see that the full $18.4 billion tab that is up there is passed.”
Shrinking federal budget surpluses prompted two powerful Democrats, Senator Kent Conrad of North Dakota, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, to announce this week that they would not support Mr. Bush’s request to add $18.4 billion to his original Pentagon spending plan for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.
Each senator asserted that paying for the full Pentagon increase would mean dipping into surplus Medicare and possibly Social Security money, which most lawmakers in both parties have declared off limits.
”He’s not proposed any way to pay for it,” Mr. Conrad said on Wednesday of the requested increase. ”That means the money will come right out of the trust funds for Medicare and Social Security if his proposal were to be adopted.”….
Mr. Bush’s original budget proposal called for increasing the Pentagon budget to $310 billion, up from $296 billion in 2001. The president later asked for an additional increase of $18.4 billion.
This story is from before 9/11. Military spending was being increased in the teeth of huge tax cuts. The Senate was controlled, barely, by Democrats. Lieberman was the swing vote. And he supported more military spending. Medicare and Social Security money was handed over to the military industrial complex. They spent it all and then some. And this is why we hear talk about starving the elderly to death while starving Gazan babies to death, using US weapons. Billions for Jews who want to kill, food reductions for American citizens paying for all this.
Now, note the last paragraph: Bush increased military spending from $296 billion to $310 billion. And he also began the practice of constantly asking for extra money. This is now very common. Congress passes a budget then the Pentagon asks for more and more ‘supplemental’ funds and this now runs to over $100 billion a year. Like all forces in nature, this one grows worse and worse as it succeeds more and more. Why even bother with budgets if there is no restrictions? Indeed, this is true of our entire US budget. The ceilings put in place during inflation years are useless since even in years where there is no ‘inflation’, the budget isn’t balanced.
On February 4, the Bush administration released its budget request for Fiscal Year 2009, which begins on October 1, 2008. For FY 2009, the White House is seeking $711 billion for the military — $541 billion for the Pentagon and the nuclear weapons-related activities of the Department of Energy, and, according to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, at least $170 billion for ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This was from last year. The Pentagon budget is over $700 billion and the supplemental budgets now are nearly $200 billion. In just 8 years, the Pentagon spending has more than doubled. The money created to save the banking system and the money spent on wars are the twin forces that are destroying our future. Social spending makes countries stronger. War spending makes countries go bankrupt. Bubbles make countries go bankrupt, too. Which is why they should be avoided like the plague. Trade deficits makes countries go bankrupt, too.
The US has to choose its path and this is extremely difficult since there is an army of people out there, funding both political parties, who are getting rich off of driving the US off the economic cliff. The hatred rained onto Jimmy Carter’s head due to his attempts at stopping inflation and excessive military spending has scared off anyone from trying to stop these things. We can’t change unless we can change. How queer is that? And one thing we need is to change the way elections are financed.
The only two candidates worth any spit in the last election were Kucinich and Ron Paul. Both denounce the slaughter of innocents in Gaza. Both want to cut military spending. One supports social spending and the other doesn’t but the other one supports ending the Federal Reserve. I wish they were running the country in tandem. We could then have a rip-roaring debate about social spending and the Federal Reserve rather than a bunch of goons yelling ‘Sieg Heil’ every time Israel waves its bloody flag.
