The FBI is very steamed over the AIPAC spy case being dropped for political reasons. Since when have cases been dropped due to fear of not winning in court? The torture memos continue to cause us problems…in Britain. Not here, it seems. The mainstream press took care of that little problem by convincing itself that torture is OK so long as it makes us strong, like the Soviet Union. But there are hearings about this matter….in Britain. Below are the links to all the Craig Murray hearings.

War Criminals Seek Safe Haven With Lib Dems
Apparently some of the Blairite right of New Labour are in talks with Paddy Pantsdown over the possibility of defecting to the Lib Dems. As the Blairite right is well to the right of Thatcher, drove the most determined attack on civil liberties since 1818, launched a devastating illegal war on the basis of lies, and reintroduced torture as public policy, one would hope the Lib Dems would tell them where to get off.
The point of immediate dispute – the introduction of a 50p income tax rate on marginal income above £150,000 – is probably the only sensible thing Brown has done.
We have been here before. Remember Dr Death. Dr David Owen is now comfortably ensconsed in the huge Mayfair office of Uzbek billionaire gangster and convicted blackmailer Alisher Usmanov, whose extremely highly paid PR catamite Owen now is.
What has the UK has come to, when its former Foreign Secretary is the paid lapdog of the most criminal of all the Russian oligarchs!
If you were very shortsighted and in a bad light, it was possible not to realise what kind of creature Owen was before he abandoned Labour for the Liberal/Social Democrat alliance. (Although it is often forgotten now that support for Trident missiles was the shameful cause of that realignment). There can be no excuse now for the Lib Dems to ally with the Blairites.
If there are any real Liberals left in the Left Dems, as opposed to nastly little careerists, they should be in revolt over even the mention of the admission of just one Blairite. John Stuart Mill must be spinning in his grave.

And the wars rage onwards inside countries occupied by US military.
Iraqi soldier kills 2 US soldiers, wounds 3
An Iraqi soldier opened fire on a U.S. military teamSaturday, killing two American soldiers and wounding three, the U.S. military said, in an attack that could sharpen worries about the extent of militant infiltration in Iraq’s security forces.
Iraqi officials described the attacker — who was killed in the gunbattle — as a soldier who also served as a Sunni Muslim preacher for his unit near Mosul, which is one of the last urban strongholds for Sunni insurgents.
Such an ambush could increase pressure on the Shiite-led government to try to root out possible turncoats and slow efforts to bring Sunni militiamen into the police and military as rewards for helping battle al-Qaida in Iraq and other insurgent factions.
Naturally, these various news stories of US soldiers being killed don’t make any US headlines at all.
Notice the complete absence of any reporting about US wars on CNN. All the other papers online in the US are no different. All the talk about loving our troops is fake. All the talk about Obama allowing military families to choose whether these funerals appear in public have led to most asking for publicity…and not getting any at all! Far from wanting to report about these funerals, the media cares more about a runaway 17 year old appearing on videos in vacation spots or how to have a happy marriage [don’t get sent to Iraq to be shot!].
Vets are good for flag waving regimes and talking all pious about sacrifice is fun if the media supports treason in high places. Indeed, conning people into patriotic frenzies while at the same time, opening the door to aliens so they can control our government…. thank you, America’s media giants! Some of whom aren’t Americans. And this includes the NYT which is now half-owned by a double alien [moves about the planet, belonging to more than one country].
Gunfight Breaks Out as Iraqi Soldiers Try to Arrest Trade Officials – NYTimes.com
The gun battle occurred Wednesday, when anticorruption officials accompanied by Iraqi soldiers went to the ministry’s headquarters in the Mansour district of Baghdad to carry out arrest warrants on corruption charges against nine officials.
Only the minister’s spokesman, Muhammad Hannoun, was arrested. The others fled after a 15-minute firefight between the military and the minister’s security detail, according to the head of Iraq’s public integrity commission, Rahim al-Okaili.
When the US conquered Germany and Japan, both sought hard to prevent corruption and periodically have to clean house. But most nations we conquer instantly go into mega-corruption and then, demand we give them mega-money so they can have super-mega-corruption. Afghanistan and Iraq are the super-duper-double-mega-corruption places that suck down billions and billions of future tax dollars—while ambushing us.
Iraq’s government has to be corrupt since it is a puppet regime. The US is also a puppet regime which is why a country that is in the top ten per capita incomes on earth, Israel, gets to suck down tens of billions in US aid. And can vote more money whenever they feel like it while boasting openly about how they have taken over DC and turned our President and Congress into their puppets!
All puppet regimes are corrupt, by definition. This is why DC is so corrupt. And why cleaning it up means cleaning up the lobbyists on all sides who are corrupting it. This is one thing Obama certainly has already failed to change!
So, the puppets in DC sent many billions to Iraq and Afghanistan so they can also be corrupt. The corrupt military/industrial corporations need to skim billions for themselves so they can live in big houses, drive expensive foreign cars and have many fashion model mistresses.
It is obvious that Iraq, far from being turned into a tame pet on an Israeli leash, is a seething caldron of violence that is on the verge of exploding, literally, under our foolish feet.
Kabul’s new elite live high on West’s largesse – Asia, World – The Independent
Vast sums of money are being lavished by Western aid agencies on their own officials in Afghanistan at a time when extreme poverty is driving young Afghans to fight for the Taliban. The going rate paid by the Taliban for an attack on a police checkpoint in the west of the country is $4, but foreign consultants in Kabul, who are paid out of overseas aids budgets, can command salaries of $250,000 to $500,000 a year.
The high expenditure on paying, protecting and accommodating Western aid officials in palatial style helps to explain why Afghanistan ranks 174th out of 178th on a UN ranking of countries’ wealth. This is despite a vigorous international aid effort with the US alone spending $31bn since 2002 up to the end of last year.
Look at the photos at this story! They spent millions of dollars, building a modern mall that is fancier than any of the malls in the Albany, NY region???? How insane is that???? The US spent billions building the world’s biggest embassy in Bagdad. I’m sure the Iraqis will have fun using that when we are forced into bankruptcy.
US aid is being abused because we are not there to protect or save the Afghanis. We are there for geopolitical reasons totally detached from either the US or Afghanistan. The people who dragged us into Afghanistan and who are milking us for profit are the military/industrial corporations run by former US and Pentagon officials and who swear allegiance to other countries, not the US.
A real patriot wouldn’t view war as an excellent opportunity for looting….the home base.
Sri Lanka rejects evidence of civilian bombings: this headline is also one that is being ignored by a lot of US professional screamers who are always yelling about Tibet and Darfur. This Buddhist war against Hindus shows exactly how peaceful both really are. Buddhism is no more peaceful than Christianity. There are no ‘peace’ religions. There are empires and there are ethnic tribal wars.
There is no propaganda value to talking about the Tamil Tigers. They don’t perform some other function. The hysteria about Tibet is all about breaking up China. The hysteria about Darfur was all about distracting everyone from looking at Gaza. And the bad guys were all Muslims and thus, good bad guys.
The US is going bankrupt. Building expensive shopping malls in Afghanistan or building fancy embassies in Iraq are bankrupting us. Giving one of the richest nations on earth billions in free aid is bankrupting us. All these things need to be addressed by our President who is also, bankrupting us. The Pentagon has to have its budget cut to Chinese levels because it is also bankrupting us. And we have to clean house, here.
Also, we should arrest any trade officials….like they tried to do in Iraq….and charge them with screwing up our trade negotiations with our top G7 trade partners who have reamed us out, in world trade. Proof of trade negotiations failures is obvious: the only way we can reduce our trade deficit is to commit economic suicide.

Looks like the Surge just means paying the Iraqis, which conveniently let infiltrators into the army and do bad things behind our backs
Bruce Fein was on Bill Moyers’ show espousing the need to proceed with the torture investigations, but for some reason his default position was that the people at the top, that is Bush and Cheney, should be pardoned.
=
One can infer that Fein highly suspects that an investigation would produce evidence of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He advocates the pardons as a way of acknowledging the guilt in order to affirm the rule of law.
=
I can not understand why one would not want to operate on the premise that if indeed guilt is proven in court that the guilty parties should be punished. Why would we want to lock up people for smoking a plant, for example, and let the most violent, dangerous criminals in the world roam the streets freely?
=
Is it that people seem to just want to remain in this stupefied hypnotic trance believing that for some reason we can not punish criminals that have held some position of supposed ‘importance’?
=
It seems to me that this is exactly what we must do in order to have any chance of saving the franchise. Perhaps some people are in denial over the true state of affairs or have just given up.
=
Do we really need to live in a world where murderers, scoundrels and thugs are given great wealth, honors and accolades while honest men (and women) are left to die in the streets like dogs?
this is an excellent post elaine. it gives me a little hope that eventually everyone gets what is coming to them. meanwhile, i have to post this again….not that anyone cares but this helps keep things in perspective for me and helps me avoid “groupthink”.

Wait a minute isn’t pakistan close to Russia and china
Yup. Great place to play geo nuclear politics with suicide bombers.
This one is really good … ‘China cancels America’s credit card’
just an ill prepared comment. mrbill and elaine….i nominate you two to come up with some constructive ideas for the future. if, if i say, both political parties are owned by the same people and those groups of people have caught us up in what you called “a perfect storm”….where was it you said?
==================================================================
….I think that the USA, and indirectly, the World is caught in a perfect storm. This perfect storm is the unintended results of years of Political, Geopolitical, Social and Financial malfeasance. This malfeasance is not the result of an individual, it is from a tightly
linked group. But the group is made up of individuals, some leading any some following, but all exhibiting some form of groupthink
==================================================================
my point? it seems to me the traditional “groups” running our civilization are completely out of ideas now and are stuck on automatic and we all seem to be following them over the cliff. i think it is time for another political party and you all need to step up and be responsible for new philosophy since the old group-thinkers seem to be completely out of working old philosophy. and you yourself said, mrbill, that most people will not take the initiative to lead….so you get this started instead of just pointing out over adn over that we seem to be lost and going the wrong way. imho.
just don’t expect me to unilaterally disarm and trust good will from men to keep things running. or the united nations. i have to go bathe my grandson.
and “arrest them all” is not a good political platform either. go. make the new whig party a reality for me so i can vote once again. the end.

“Wait a minute isn’t pakistan close to Russia and china?”
___
Map of Southeast Asia:
___
http://www.sitesatlas.com/Atlas/PhysAtlas/C12.htm
___
Pakistan borders Afghanistan to its west, and Tajikistan to the north and China to the northeast and India to the east.
___
Across from Afghanistan, but protected by rugged mountains, is Iran. Also, the people of Tajikistan are of Persians descent like the Iranians, and they were formerly a part of the Soviet Union but would feel kinship to the Iranians because of their common heritage.
___
Now, lets look at this situation and consider who has what.
Afghanistan is poor, but its citizens are very rugged and hardy and can live on very little….fierce fighters who have pushed out the world’s strongest empires and invaders.
___
Pakistan broke off from India because it perceived Hindu oppression of Muslims. Pakistan’s relations with India are not cordial by any means…and both India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons aimed at each other…and they have been on the verge of open warfare several times….a very dangerous situation.
___
According to news accounts, Iran has Russian built, supersonic cruise missiles and the means to shut down oil shipping in the Persian Gulf region or to even attack the US fleet if provoked…and they appear to be determined to become a nuclear power. They are on the other side of Afghanistan which the US occupies right now…..The Southern regions of Afghanistan which are less mountainous are the only open paths for US armor to move by land into Iran in the event of an attack…however, US air power could be flown from bases in Afghanistan or Pakistan to attack Iran.
___
However, Pakistanis and even their puppet government which has been controlled by the US appear to really dislike the US because of its attacks inside of Pakistan on Taliban training camps and hiding places….and even the puppet government does not like this.
___
In the event of a US invasion, refugees will not be welcome in India and border problems will arise…which could escalate into a nuclear confrontation. Also, to the north, this would cause problems for both Tajikistan and China who might be flooded by refugees. In the event of nuclear war between India and Pakistan, millions of Indians would suffer as would US forces inside Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Indians have very good technology nowadays and are armed with 5th generation Russian fighter planes…and during war games with US air force a while back, they performed exceptionally well except for the US possessing better air to air missile technology…but in the fighter to fighter exercises, the Indian pilots held their own very well…according to news accounts….and one can safely say that the situation between India and Pakistan is a dangerous one…and if the US were to invade and take over Pakistan, it would become responsible for maintaining peace between Pakistan’s Muslims and India’s Hindus.
___
It appears that Israel fears Iran, and especially their becoming a Muslim nuclear power…and from news accounts, it wants to eliminate this perceived threat…with either conventional or nuclear weapons…and Israel would likely want to involve the US in such an attack or even want to cause the US to attack Iran itself…to soothe their fears.
___
According to a current news account, General Petraeus claims that Pakistan is on the verge of collapse…..could this be his way of preparing the US citizenry for a US takeover of Pakistan? And Pakistani leaders are meeting with Washington soon.
___
Now, as far as the US military taking over Pakistan, it should remember the millions of Pakistanis who demonstrated against the US takeover of Iraq….so reasonably, the US would have another resistance war against its oppression in Pakistan, as well as Iraq.
___
Now, this is not even considering how Russia and China might react….I do not know what Russia’s relationship with Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic, might be…or if Russia still has influence there, but one can be assured that Russia is watching this scenario with keen interests.
___
Also, China would not appreciate having Pakistani refugees crossing into China in the event of hostilities inside Pakistan.
___
So, based on my limited knowledge of this situation, I can easily conclude that the US is creating a very dangerous situation in South Asia that need not exist…and with nuclear weapons involved by three of the parties involved, and Israel also, this is a situation that might possibly create apocalyptic results.
___
One hopes some good sense might prevail, but, so far, we are not yet seeing movement in a reasonable direction as far as Afganistan and Pakistan are concerened.
___
In my opinion, we need to shut down this war and bring our troops home before disaster strikes them….they’re in a very dangerous place strategically…and might be in a position where the US might not be able to control events.
Want to have fun? I just posted a speech made by the head of the Fed Reserve made at exactly the same time I was in Europe, making speeches about the CIA and the Vietnam war: March, 1968.
.
The collapse of US finances was DUE TO WARS. The Cold War and the Vietnam War destroyed the US gold standard. And since then, we have sold our souls to have ‘no inflation’ by allowing everyone to wreck our nation, at home! While we strut and fret about the planet, bribing or beating up everyone! Disgusting and worse: utterly stupid!
;
As for third parties: I am center of the road in many ways. There is no center, now, hasn’t been for many years. When Anderson ran for President, I said, ‘He is a centralist!’ But he lost. And so did Perot. We can’t penetrate the media’s death grip on our elections….right now…but in the future? Who knows? The internet is very empowering…
What are the chances that bitching on the Internet will change anything?
What are the chances lazy, fat, Americans will change anything?
Nothing is going to change, Americans are weak willed, fattened cows.
While you cry “Arrest them all!” the PTB laugh, and move forward with their plans. It does not threaten them.
In 1776, could the founding fathers just cry “arrest them!”, and the King’s army would be arrested, and then England would leave us alone?
Power does not give up Power without aggressive action.
I think the problem with the “Truth movement” and the Internet blogs is there is no leader, or group of leaders, working for the public good, that have the charisma and leadership skills, to inspire the sheep to listen and act.
And that is not meant as an insult to your blog, I do enjoy reading it. On the other hand, I think the chances of the PTB being simply arrested, and put on trial all peaceful like, is not gonna happen in a million years. I guess the fantasy of having someone to save us from the evil villains is the inspiration behind many comic books.
I appreciate you covering the torture hearings, however I just do not have the time for the rest of the fanciful assertions. Hinduism preaches peace? I thought that the hippies read the Mahabharata, or at least the footnotes to the Bhagavad Gita, or at least someone mentioned something about it when you were passing the bone around. Buddhism preaches peace? Is that why the hippies made their own fervid cult to the Black Tara, that was pooh pooed in the Tibetan monasteries for its prolix affinity to violence. Christ preached peace? In Matthew he incites rebellion and civil war for the Roman/Norton collaborators. Why doesn’t anyone take you up on the fast and loose with facts. I would not contest, except for your overbearing and stentorian tones. You certainly do not have grasp, much less exclusive grasp of history. Do you even understand what is at stake in Tibet, which is the headwaters of every important river in South East Asia? Yangtze (Drichu), Yellow (Machu) and Mekong (Zachu) rivers. But of course, the Middle Kingdom is beneficiary of your ‘assistance’ shall we say? Or are you its beneficiary? How about Chinese plans to divert the Brahmaputra? Or how about the several Peaceful Nuclear Explosions proposed by your friends Wang and Li to help bore through the Himalayas. Nothing but silence from you regarding these proposed crimes. Since you do not like the Hindus, you would be happy if the Indus, Sutlej and Karnali/Ganges stopped flowing. However since you are very interested in preserving your life and stopping world war three, you might pay attention to the martial consequences of a billion and a half thirsty and angry Hindus. However we all know from you that WWIII will start in the Levant, so no need to worry, eh?
You are living on the bounty of empire, yet you do not want it to extend beyond the benefit it provides you. Once the plunder is set in motion, who will stop it – not those who are its beneficiaries, meaning you.

Very interesting, with all kinds of geopolitical implications….the main one being that China has almost complete control of all of South and Southeast Asia for the immediate future because it controls the water….and, the reality of this situation is that China is not ever going to give Tibet up….the US can howl to the rooftops, but it won’t happen.
I personally like Buddhists, and most try to be gentle, hard working people…and they do fall short like everyone else at times, but I personally think the Dali Lama and his followers need to talk to China and being themselves under Chinese government rule as citizens….and perhaps they would be able to influence more Chinese moderation in that way than by resisting. As long as they are in legal limbo, they will be pulled this way and that by the world political forces who use them for their own benefit….witness Bush inviting the Dali Lama to the White House to insult China…and the Bhuddists caught hell from China because of this.
___
So, India has to get along with China and its ally, Russia,…this explains why India is buying Russian military hardware and is quietly moving away from the West.
___
PA….you are right about the Bhagavad Gita. It is all about warfare, and doing what has to be done to destroy wrongdoers and usurpers of legitimate Indian rule. I’ve read it, and God approves Hindus going into battle doing what has to be done to “preserve the kingdom”…God told this to Arjuna personally….this is what the Gita teaches…has implications about pissed of Hindus taking a military stance and moving into action if necessary.

“How about Chinese plans to divert the Brahmaputra? Or how about the several Peaceful Nuclear Explosions proposed by …… Wang and Li to help bore through the Himalayas……..[what about India] if the Indus, Sutlej and Karnali/Ganges stopped flowing.”
____
What’s this all about? Is it for real or just a threat to keep China’s Southern neighbors in line, or is it actually in the planning stages? If it is planned reality, this creates an even more dangerous situation, but one so nasty that China would suffer greatly from it also….sounds like strategic threats on China’s part.
____
One thing is certain, and that is China, because of its rapid industrial growth and technology, is the dominant force in South and Southeast Asia….and the US, because of its foolishness in seeking a military solution in Vietnam, has lost much of a stake in dominating the region in the near future….simple as that.
___
PA, you said, “You are living on the bounty of empire, yet you do not want it to extend beyond the benefit it provides you. Once the plunder is set in motion, who will stop it – not those who are its beneficiaries, meaning you.”
____
That’s just it PA, we are not living in the bounty of empire….our empire has gone bust…and those who benefit from all of the chaos are scrambling in rather insane ways to keep benefiting from whatever is left of it….according to what we read and hear from our own government, and have discovered on this blog, we don’t have the means and resources to keep our empire going in order to “save the world,” or to protect everyone from China’s growing influence over its neighbors…or maybe even its influence over us because of our recent corporatist outsourcing foolishness.
___
And, perhaps, our even being there in Afghanistan and possibly Pakistan, is exacerbating an already difficult situation for India and its neighbors….seems to me that this is not a game where blustering and bluffing is the best strategy.
___
Out of this, I tentatively conclude that the US needs to get its economic and political house in order immediately, and stop bullying and blustering for profits and again (if it ever was one)become an honest broker if it hopes to remain influential to any significant extent in the South and Southeastern Asia Region in the future.
___
These are just my humble opinions…

Some very interesting stuff.
Which is why this US sponsored Tibet uprising is sheer lunacy
It would be akin to the Chinese asking for rights to the Lake Eyrie, using words and propaganda and maybe a Bay of Pigs here and there
Oh please, don’t US know not to bring knife to a gunfight?
the overwhelming majority of americans approve of how president obama is running things now. so nothing except what the democrat party wants is going to happen now since we will be living in a one party political system for years thanks to the demise of the republican party….and only an imbicile would even think of considering an alternative 3rd politial party.
Of course! We try over and over, the same solutions. We hope that the status quo will continue. Even if the status quo is rising debts, loss of sovereignty and loss of industrial power. We want this to go on and on, forever.
.
India never had its own communist revolution so it will not be able to be the leader in Asia. Its philosophy and religious system is racist in the extreme and thus, has no appeal to outsiders. The US revolution was long, long ago and very decrepit today. Note that people will fight to the death to EVADE joining our ‘revolution’.
and i presume what is called “the dominant civilizational order” is only going to become more dominant? i.e. globally dominant….nothing is going to be overthrown by the islams or anyone else instead BRIC is going to join with the tired old west and the “dominant civilizational order” and what is happening is what was wanted back in the 1960’s. i.e. the “sharing of the wealth” of what used to be called the northern countries with the rest of the world. and this is what is happening basically. so make your peace with this and find somewhere to live besides in your car and something to do. the end of history indeed.
The Indian system is not a racist but a caste system.
For the unintiated:
You are born into a job
Good, now stay there
Did we mentions toilet cleaners are reviled, and there is NO WAY getting out of that position?
Join the 1773 revolution? Kill a bunch of cops and natives and I get to keep slaves? Where to sign up? 🙂
the important point i think is that BRIC will be a full part of the global “dominant civilizational order” now. maybe the most important part even. they are not going to have a revolution against what europe and america started are they. instead, BRIC nations are going to be very important members in good standing. and what we are watching is just birthing pains. well the end again. back where i began. everythign has changed….nothing has changed. the king is dead. long live the king. get useful is my advice.
Don’t you think the West has changed a lot to accomodate the BRICs?
More centralized power, more government surveillance, less individual rights, etc etc?
We are becoming more like them and favor expediency over political participation, and not the other way around
i think “they” have done it. messy, sloppy, destructive even. the “dominant civilizational order”…. i.e. modernity which will be embraced by china and russia and brazil and india and every other nation and culture and race. and america and england are tired of leading. but whoever leads won’t change anything either. perhaps nations will become obsolete but money won’t i bet. and the class of 1965 did their part, even though most of us are already obsolete and of no further use. good luck everybody.

___
“India never had its own communist revolution so it will not be able to be the leader in Asia. Its philosophy and religious system is racist in the extreme and thus, has no appeal to outsiders.”
___
You are exactly right. Mahatma Gandhi attempted to teach India a better way…he even did his share of the toilet cleaning himself in the ashram where he and his followers lived.
___
He also begged Indian Muslims to remain a part of India, and, for a brief moment, there was hope for an Indian social revolution. It was not the Muslims, but the Hindus who murdered him….and the entire country went downhill from there.
___
The partitioning of Pakistan for Muslims came about, but disputes continued and India continued on its previous path of racism…..the caste system was outlawed, but continued just as before….like sharecropping in the old US south until industrialization changed things.
___
And India and Pakistan both forgot Gandhi’s teachings of finding peaceful solutions whenever possible….at one time, he held both groups under his influence, but his death destroyed all of that….and both groups developed nuclear weapons aimed at each other.
___
Not to mention other religious and ethnic groups inside India..and how they are apart from mainstream Indian life.
___
You are right Elaine…the caste system is the basis for India’s lagging behind in its leadership role for Asia…..more people than anyone, but with relatively far less influence.
___
Very smart people, but just as stubborn as the British aristocrats who once ruled over them…they might have growing science and technology and military power, but they have a way to go socially….and for that matter, so do we here in the US.

.
David,
Great post regarding the Pakistani situation. I read an article recently citing the US killing of Pakistani citizens with bombs (drones), is a technique called “tickling’ the enemy into a violent rage, in effort to provoke a backlash. The Zardiri government has not provided protection for its people from these US attacks, which are driving the Taliban fighters into the capitol, to the government.
.
This is the US strategy to take over their government.
.
Israel has grave fears about anyone in the region having nukes. It sure seemed fishy when the term du jour morphed to “AFPAK” a few weeks ago. The war on Islam just keeps spreading its cancerous tentacles as we go broke.
.
With yet another war, and the hysterical rantings of Israel that it will attack Iran, we are staring into the abyss.
.
I share your sentiment for the need for greater minds to prevail. The diseased policies of a non-nation like Israel have placed the entire planet on its head. A sober statesman is desperately needed, but it won’t be borne out of the AIPAC infested US. China and Russia have much at stake in the region; any hope for sanity will likely come via their intervention.
.
Openlyhidden, the two party scam has been there to divide the sheep for a long time. It is sheer entertainment to watch us fighting over abortion and gay marriage while millions are being culled for the enhancement of some elitist pigs.

There is no light between the two parties. Witness, Arlen Spector defecting to the winning side. The bankers put Mr. Toothpaste ad Obama in office at a time when the US desperately needs a schmoozer, like Bill Clinton, to clean up and pay up after a Bush disaster. They put Bush in to create the disaster and rape the system. It’s real simple, think of it as a big revolving door.
Patriotism…the last refuge of the scoundrel. Trite, but sadly all too true. If you do not–just to use the latest example–“support” the troops in Iraq/Afghanistan, you are NOT American. This is a daily theme on the right wing, corporate welfare whore media like Fox and talk radio. Amazing. The year is 2009 and this crud STILL works on some sheeple. I can’t criticize too much; I used to believe the propaganda myself. I blame the education system. We have a education system run by elites who want the ‘proles’ submissive, NOT discerning. Kind of like what Hitler had in mind for his Soviet captives: only educate them enough so they can count to 100 and read road signs.
An impartial review of the concept of torture in the Scriptures makes it clear it is not forbidden and in certain cases encouraged. But such a review is incomplete.
Consider how Yeshua was led by the Spirit in the case of the woman caught in adultery. The religious leaders saw an opportunity to trap Him, for Moses was very clear: her punishment was to be stoned to death. They must have had some reason to think He would not support that. Why?
He knew the Law–He IS the Law. Yet this woman was spared via a moment of wisdom that made Solomon look like a pretty dim bulb. Why?
Likewise, the religious leaders must have had reason to think Yeshua could be trapped on the subject of divorce. Why?
Here, too, He made it clear there were serious misunderstandings about what the Law requires versus what the Law allows.
There are levels of rightness. I choose to seek the highest possible. I do not judge and certainly do not condemn those whose consciences guide them to the rightness of other levels. I do not see that torture is required, merely allowed. I choose not to support its utilization unless there is simply no other way. With Yeshua, there usually is, in my study and experience.

Concerning torture:
___
CEO Nutcracker:
___
One questions at what point it was decided by the Neo-cons and Bush co. that torture should be included in their bag or tricks in the war on terror or more rightly, the war against Islam.
___
I know a republican sheriff’s deputy who was, at one time, very connected politically at a local level….In a conversation with him at a local store, well before Bush was ever elected, this guy mentioned that the President didn’t have enough power to do anything. Then, later in that conversation, the guy mentioned that if the Republicans get elected, we’ve got some new ways planned for dealing with bad guys…and it won’t be fun for them….I just listened and thought the guy was blowing smoke, but it turned out that he was getting some of the skinny on what the Neo-cons and fascists had planned for the nation.
___
I surmise that torture might have been decided as a regimen for Muslims because, in many Muslim nations, they still whip and physically abuse their own citizens for wrongdoing or even traffic violations….often right on the spot. And amputation of hands for theft…and stoning for adultery
___
So, I suspect that when it was decided that the US would make war on selected Muslims who were deemed a threat by our “friends,” it was thought that we should not be too easy on them because they would not see us as being tough and serious about our conquest of the middle east….and so, torture was added to the bag of oppression tricks.
___
Now, CEO Nutcracker just came up with an interesting concept…that Washington politics is a revolving door dog and pony show for the masses…and maybe even for allies and the world…with the same people running things behind the scenes for both parties…..
___
Playing good cop verses bad cop….
___
Well, Bush and Cheney were the bad cops and they did a superb job…and terrified everyone and brought the masses to heel behind their war on Islam…oops…war on terror…and applied all of the devices at their disposal against those innocent Iraqi men, women and children…and used the US military and contractors and the CIA to dominate and torture those who resisted their being conveniently labeled terrorists who “hate us for our freedoms.”
___
Well, as world opinion shifted away from approval of US methods and torture….since the citizens of many nations are better informed than US citizens, the PTB decided to install a “good cop” to clean up the Bush co. mess so Washington can regain its credibility in the eyes of the US masses and also in the eyes of the world.
___
As part of his good cop role, Obama needs to clean up the torture mess….and, in my humble opinion, the release of the torture memos were the beginning of this cleanup….
___
The military attempted to do its own cleanup and become righteous again… Specialist Charles Graner, and his former fiancee, Specialist Lynndie England, were sentenced to ten years and three years in prison.
___
The commanding officer at the prison, Brigadier General Janis Karpinski, was demoted to the rank of Colonel on May 5, 2005. Col. Karpinski has denied knowledge of the abuses, claiming that the interrogations were authorized by her superiors and performed by subcontractors, and that she was not even allowed entry into the interrogation rooms.
___
One thing I know from my overseas service is that little happens in the lower ranks without the nod from those above….So, the military attempted to hang their bad guy torture image around lower ranks necks and Karpinski was sacrificed from the officer ranks…while the top level torture authorizers walked…and they thought it was enough, but as far as the world is concerned, this is not even enough to whet their appetites for the revenge they seek against US torturers.
___
You see, the US has conveniently dogged the entire world about human rights abuses for half a century, and still does. So, once US torture was revealed, nearly the entire world is out to dog our asses about it…and they will not let up until they taste US blood on this issue….and this is heavy pressure on our PTB…who must interact with other nations to keep their globalization efforts alive.
___
However, the military torture authorizers and others forgot that the installed political good cop, Obama, must have his symbolic pound of flesh…before the US torture issue can be settled in the eyes of the world and in the eyes of slightly less than half of the US citizens.
___
So, we’re back to those torture memos that Obama released…and they probably had a very real purpose.
___
The PTB need some high level scapegoats in a serious way…and they mean to have them.
___
Lets look at this thing carefully. The Military did its symbolic duty and tried to become righteous again…and so did the FBI….and Obama went to the CIA leaders and its rank and file and gave them a pass on their dirty deeds.
___
And he has as much as stated that he will not go after Bush and Cheney for their wrongdoing….and Pelosi and Hillary and the Senators, including Obama, who knew, can take a free pass also because they can tell their story their own way…and since the CIA and FBI have been passed, who is to dispute them?….so the cover up rages…except for those who are still standing with now chair to sit in as the music stops.
___
Who is standing without a chair….I suggest that it will be the second tier advisors and secretaries to Bush and Cheney and their lackeys including John Yoo and Donald Rumsfelt, and maybe even some of the far right younger Neo-con advisors….and others… A clue comes from Arlen Spector.
Arlen Spector, upon his GOP defection, stated that some of the GOP were so far right that nobody wants anything to do with them….I suggest that this is because they are square in the cross hairs of good cop Obama’s deadly aim……
___
This is what all of the hub bub around Washington is all about with planes flying around buildings and swine flue hysteria…these guys are realizing they might have a lazer dot right between their eyes….and they’re trying to bluff and bluster their way to safety….as usual.
___
However, somebody needs to mount the gallows….it is sorely needed to put this issue behind the PTB and their empire….We sorely need to again become the good, benevolent helpful empire that is concerned about the welfare of all of our neighbors, and the entire world.
___
However, this search for scapegoats is scaring the hell out of those whose guilt is apparent to everyone…because they were so arrogant during their tenure in office that they thought they would never be held accountable.
___
That’s what all of the covering up going on around Washington is all about…..and one suspects that the guilt for many things involves the mainstream media..and their owners and leaders….the entire show has been too well orchestrated not to be….so everyone is running scared…..
___
And we’re already talking about the apparent leaders of this war against Isl….I mean terrorism….and where the orders are really coming from….
___
“Oh,the tangled webs we weave when first we try to deceive”….
___
The true leaders of this mess are becoming more an more visible daily….as are the processes of their deception.
i too blame the education system. not for your reasons though. it is my experience that most white people simply will not do anything i would call “work” anymore….they are too good to work it seems. If it weren’t for mexican and asian immigrants and parolees here where i live, no actual “real” work would get done. people are happy to “work” for the government, or “work” in the educational systems, or “work” in some lame capacity as counselors, or telling those poor people who do something real how it is or maybe cops, who produce absolutely nothing real either. if a white person somehow will actually condescend to do some real “work” that might tire them out or get them dirty, they will expect at least 3 times what mexicans want and the mexicans are twice the workers who take pride in what they do imho. full of crap wanna be society mothers around here regard it as somehow shameful if their little entitled worthless as shit but full of high esteem kids aim to do anything REAL that might work up a sweat or get dirty heaven forbid. imho, avoiding actual real “work” is also the cause of the banksters too. it was too hard and boring for their little genius minds to earn a living the old fashioned way, so they too tried to get something for nothing. we even have a local community of special full of crap “educated” assholes who are always planting stories about how they are the …. CREATIVE class! hahahahahhaahhaah! oh it is going to suck for white people soon to have to ask their former waiters and gardeners and mechanics and service people for jobs one day. do you suppose the mexicans and asians who work all the time will feel they owe the useless “educated”, entitled white people who had a world literally handed to them and they fucked it all away but now ought to be supported by more stupid and not as “educated” people who actually had to WORK instead of feeling sensitive and CREATIVE and oh so SPECIAL? hahahahhaha! lazy white people who regard “work” as beneath them with no character or moral fiber whose grandparents would be ashamed of them who will not save a dime, feeling good is their preoccupation, and telling others how it is yet cannot and will not do any actual real work….well, everyone gets what they got coming to them soon. CREATIVE CLASS MY ASS. HAHAHAHAHHAAHHA! and this all goes back to the viet nam protestors who then hid out in graduate schools imho hahahhahahaha! fucked up didn’t we! hahahahahha! special creative educated sensitive with special discriminating tastes and needs hahahahah!
We never punish ourselves for our war crimes.
we got the leadership we deserved. not you elaine. you have apparently devoted your life to trying to right wrongs….right or wrong you do believe in what you have done, and you are not afraid to work. if others were like you, we all could get along i bet you could even tolerate loud big dirty smelly farmers and construction workers passing through your neighborhood and hollaring woo! woo! i appreciation. i am mostly pissed about my relatives who will not get a job but continue going to school searching for that major they can get a high paying job managing others who actually do for obscene amounts of money. mark my words, they and those like them are too soft for the future that is coming at them.
and they are pushing 30 now. student debt up the ass and no job taht can’t be done by a high school dropout….and regard the people around here as not being good enough.
WE all want easy street. And yet, all stories are about the easy road being the road to hell…..
David,
Torture is nothing new to the US. With US tax dollars, the PTB support despots who mame and kill anyone of their citizens who don’t cow to the US, raping and pissing all over their turf. Whether it be Dole, Chiquita, Smithfield Farms, and don’t forget Monsanto devastating organic farms around the planet in an effort to control the food supply.
.
And oh, lets not forget the Drug Trade. Death squads are trained at the School of Americas in Fort Benning, GA to aid our DEA/CIA in trafficking this crap to Main St. USA. The SOA murders and tortures in the most henious way. Mexico is rife with these US trained monsters. The money goes to prop up Wall St. stocks. Chicago is a huge hub for distribution and the Chicago Stock Exchange benefits by the billions.
.
There is plenty of information on the School Of The Americas.

No, torture is nothing new under our flag. It was never used in conventional war, supposedly. But I have talked to Vietnam Vets and there was not much that didn’t happen in that fucking war.
From what I can tell, and this may shock some people here, Ghandi was a British colonial appeaser, who tried to fend off both sides to get power. Power through the plebs are a staple since politics are invented, and by going to the lower class and showing that he is one of them (or at least understood their concerns) he built up his power base
The difference between this person and the violent revolutions was, he actively tried to cut a deal with the colonial masters.
Non-violence seem to benefit the proles, but in actual fact benefited the British the most, who continue to have a lasting influence in the subcontinent to this day, in finance, culture, connections, etc.
Now consider the proles. They are doomed if they do not revolt as their conditions can only be described as appalling, more appalling if you consider the British mandated partition which pits religion against religon
Right on openlyhidden. The sense of entitlement has been ingrained into students. It isn’t “can johnny/janey do the three “R’s”?, it is “how does little Johnny FEEL?” Or: “let’s spend more time on a t-shirt a student is wearing that some deem politically incorrect” than in improving test scores. This is part and parcel of the same plan. Keep the “proles” complacent by not challenging them. By not failing them in school. Keep them from failing by not making them take REAL classes in the sciences and in communication skill development so they won’t swallow the propaganda when they hear it. The elites know they are outnumbered, that’s why they have to do this kind of stuff. It’s also why the elites hate democracy. In a democracy with really educated folks, elites lose most every time.
Elaine and CEO Nutcracker and Paul S:
___
So, I’m probably wrong about Obama and the good cop thing and Elaine concludes that we never punish ourselves for war crimes.
___
Sure seemed like an interesting scenario though, even if it was only in the windmills of my mind.
___
CN:
Yes, I know that the US has tortured in probably every war it has been involved in, especially Vietnam…and cruelties reached a fever pitch there at times…once the VC caught Korean Soldiers and skinned them (probably alive when they started)…and the Koreans hunted VC like animals…and wrapped them into small balls in barbed wire until they were dead…and I saw one of these lying in the road as I passed it daily until someone got the courage to push the dead person to the side and burn the body…and our hospital unit turned wounded prisoners over to the South Vietnamese military after their recovery… and it was rumored they were taken over the sea and dropped from 1000 feet…,but(like the American people) we didn’t know, and didn’t want to know….you protect your own mind whenever you can by not letting in knowledge that might overwhelm you when you are super stressed already, especially when you are powerless to stop the insanity that surrounds you, and you pray that you can escape it alive and in one piece.
___
On the eve of the Bush I invasion of Iraq, a fellow vet showed up on my doorstep in hysterics…and then confessed to me that he had participated in raping all of the girls and women of a village that they suspected belonged to their enemies…as revenge for losing one of their comrades…and the guy is an alcoholic and nut case because of his dirty deeds.
___
I’m not naive, but simply indignant as hell….this is the first time that torture has been institutionalized as a part of US political thinking and war making policy…against the guidance and grain of the US Constitution, I might add….and I’m pissed that more than half of our loving, good American people think choking people with water 183 times, until they pass out, is not torture and actually approve of this shit….they’ve become worse than animals when they allow this to become an accepted part of their thinking.
___
And I do think the US is on the ropes as far as other peoples or nations accepting US freedom and democracy ideology nowadays….if they ever did….and they can point fingers easily when the US goes on its human rights preaching spree like it does fairly often, but all of this preaching just might be a way of minimizing what we are doing….the guilty usually do protest loudest.
___
Paul S.
“It isn’t “can johnny/janey do the three “R’s”?, it is “how does little Johnny FEEL?” Or: “let’s spend more time on a t-shirt a student is wearing that some deem politically incorrect” than in improving test scores. This is part and parcel of the same plan.
___
No, that was the plan back during the 1970s….Now, it’s improve the test scores. During the last years I taught, we were expected to teach the test…and we did….and if the kids passed, we were good teachers and the kids were good students and Administrators and parents were happy….Educational accountability is the biggest fucking farce ever….I question, what are you going to do with them if they fail? Leave them in 9th grade until they are 21 years old and then kick them out on the street….Testing depends on who creates the test…what is taught…has little to do with good education.
___
At one (private) university I attended, there was very little testing, but we were required to write reaction papers about every class discussion…and then these were critiqued and then we had thirty page research papers at the end of each course…and we had to read at least 10 significant, assigned books for each course. When they were though with you, you knew your subject.
___
Testing is bullshit and covering administrators asses…simple as that…but the public schools do it and people believe in it and think “passing the test” proves something.
___
I can take any class where I know the subject and teach them the test for two or three weeks, and 100 percent of the non-retarded students will pass it. And, even if I never see the test, in two short years, I know about 90 percent of what is being asked…and what I need to teach…because I ask students what they encountered…and they happily tell me what gave them difficulty….so, in my courses, we did what I wanted them to do until the last part of the course, and then I grilled them on the test…rote memorization, until they passed easily…all bullshit.
___
If you want real education…the answer is in writing and debating….just like we do on this blog….Elaine monitors and keeps us on track and going in viable directions, and we teach ourselves and each other….I know I’ve learned something from every person on this blog…even those I’ve disagreed with.
___
I once did a course on the American Civil War….reading the writings of both Northern and Southern men…. These guys, when they started, were not college educated officers, but ordinary guys, both North and South, who had some education. However, they had complete command of the English language…and they were smart and very mature in their thinking….one boy, a 17 year old Yankee shopkeeper, entered the Union Army as a private, and four years later, at age 21, led his remaining men home as a brigadier general. His book is “All For The Union.” And often these guys learned to read in one room schoolhouses, but they read and discussed classic literature and the bible of course…and they learned to think…and do practical things also, like slopping the hogs and chopping wood and patching the roof….had to…there was nobody to do the grunt work for them…and a spirit of personal independence prevailed.
___
hard work especially is asking for the job in the first place or closing the sale too. all this is regarded as beneath lots and lots of people who in their own minds are “specially gifted”….to special to risk rejection.
====================================================================
even harder work is keeping what you have. this is never a problem for those who earned it honestly in the first place, but is a major problem for those who got with no effort or appreciation on their part.
==================================================================
truth is white people now are full of crap and then act surprised when the world turn. weak and full of crap mentally weak emotionally weak….but by god, they look purty cause of their gym muscles and skin toner….but they are the real hollow people filled up with crap.
=====================================================================
this pretty much exhausts what i have to say about this subject too.
I didn’t know the Korean rent-a-cops tortured Vietnamese during the Viet war.
The Koreans will get a nasty surprise once the economy in Vietname eclipses that of South Korea
Population
80 million, vs 44 million
this will be interesting to watch
Simon:
___
It was the Korean Whitehorse Division..and they were reacting to how their troops were tortured and killed…..this stuff just escalates until everybody becomes so hate filled and gruesome that they become inhuman.
___
Torture is a path that makes warfare escalate into being even worse,as if anything could be worse.
OH:
__
“hard work especially is asking for the job in the first place or closing the sale too.”
__
You’re right….keeping asking for a job when nobody is hiring or keeping on selling when nobody is buying….that is the very definition of hard work….and that takes real determination.
one time you commented something like you could or would look at 10 homes in a row and you could always see something that needed done and you would cold call on them to ask them to hire you to do it? that impressed the hell out of me david. you deserve good things to happen for you. but then, “deserves” got nothing to do with it does it. happy days david.
I once got a job fixing a house that way. I could see a section was about to collapse and I warned the owners who were told by their contractor, it wouldn’t happen. Then, it collapsed. I got a phone call a few days later to come and fix everything.

OH:
___
What I commented on a while back was that my vision has expanded. I can see opportunity as I ride down the road or street…work needing doing….and if you knock on the doors where the work is needing doing and hand out 10 business cards, you will usually get one call back…eventually.
___
Nowadays, with the economic difficulties, you might have to take a pig or some chickens for pay….or more likely, the amount you get paid won’t be enough to buy very much.
___
I have taken barter for pay too….once a table saw for estimating the value of timber.
___
If my renters get behind, I will take a pawn of their riding mower, quality tools, nice jewelry, a quality firearm an antique, etc.
___
OH…been reading your comments about young people and jobs….
Don’t be too hard on them because it takes time to learn that their college degree is essentially worthless, except maybe to open doors for certain kinds of jobs. Only the knowledge a person learned earning the degree is valuable…..IF YOU CAN SOMEHOW APPLY THAT KNOWLEDGE WORKING FOR YOUR OWN BENEFIT….that’s the trick about college degrees.
__
What I learned in college, math skills…averaging, writing, communicating, etc. even helped me as a logger, and I was able to jump right to the top of the heap of local loggers buying and selling timber when I applied this knowledge talking to people, writing timber contracts etc….and some loggers who couldn’t read or average what they were getting paid, got cheated often by the timber companies….so education is important…don’t discount it entirely….just as bad to do that as to discount the importance of hard work.
___
And what I learned from Elaine enabled me to predict this economic depression two years in advance….while neighbors were spending and wasting I was tightening my belt and collecting things and preparing….maybe not enough, but I was ahead of many others in knowing what to expect….now, I’ve got to figure out how to handle the difficulties and get along during these difficult times….and more difficult still, how to get my family to also tighten down….and lower their expectations of easy availability of everything they want…and to stay out of debt, ect…until better times.
