This ticks me off no end but then, the US isn’t producing much of the vaccinations being used. These come from foreign nations, naturally. Mumps Outbreak Hits New York and New Jersey
Mumps outbreaks in New Jersey and the New York City borough of Brooklyn are related, health officials say. As of Thursday, there were 57 confirmed or probable cases in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, the New York Daily News reported. Health officials said they were investigating the possibility of other cases. Most of those infected are between 10 and 15 years old.

The Daily News reported that the outbreaks were traced to a child who visited Britain and then attended a summer camp in upstate New York, where several of the other Brooklyn children were subsequently infected. Britain generally has more cases of the mumps because of lower levels of vaccination….

According to your cited article on the mumps flareup, most of the afflicted children were indeed fully vaccinated against the mumps. I’ve rarely encountered anyone denying the effectiveness of Vaccines. Isolated communites tend to be filled with paranoid anti-science types.
Most people i know aren’t getting the swine-flu vaccine because they don’t like getting “shot” and are skeptical of the virulance of the flu.
In Mexico the swine flu has become a butt of jokes. Most people there are convinced that it was a scare tactic of Calderon’s to distract from the economic difficulty hitting mexico.
Its been compared to the idiotic myth of the chupacabra. The swine flu has become heavily politicized in Mexico and has subsequently created heavy cynicism. Its not that the swine flu doesn’t exist or is not causing fatalities, the simple fact is that the fear of the “gripa porcina” is being manipulated by the gov’t for their own means.

Its received extensive radio play in Mexico and most people agree that the swine flu has been exaggerated.
The overwhelming majority of patients experience mild symptoms. There are a few groups at greater risk for developing serious complications such as those with asthma, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, are pregnant, or have a weakened immune system. The flu doesn’t kill you, it weakens your imune system and subsequently allows a more opportunistic infection to wreck havoc and possibly lead to death.
Basically if you have any of the above conditions you are at an elevated risk to develop complications. So its not a bad idea to get a vaccination if you have asthma or some other serious condition that weakens your immune system.
This is not to say that people in Mexico are ignoring the seriousness that the swine flu poses to the country. The simple fact is that Mexico has more pressing economic, political, and social issues to deal with. Mexican are quite aware that they will have to “wait out” the “pandemic”.
Disease, hunger, violence and manipulation are things that a privileged majority can turn their backs to and ignore, while its the legacy of the majority.

For instance, i had a cousin that had low self-esteem (being poor does that to you) and decided to join the military to gain “leadership/pride.” To make a long story short he couldn’t deal with the Military indoctrination and ended up getting section’d 8.
He came one day and asked my brother if he wanted to go to wali-mart and my brother said why not he needed to restock on some ammo. He ended up “kidnapping” my brother and taking him to church-mind you this was on a wednesday 😦
as you can probably guess my brother quickly spread the word that my cousin had just “found jesus” and you needed to avoid his ass.
He became deeply disturbed and would carry a bible around with him everywhere and would go on long rants about the word of god being the only hope of salvation.
He would criticize everyone for any perceived moral sins and would yell at everyone that they were lusting for the Devil and his pleasures.
Most of us would just humor him and nod our heads in agreement becuase no one wants a psycho getting pissed at them.
Sad but he ended up hooking up with a 23 yr old girl with 5 kids.
He ended up getting in trouble for wearing his military uniform and came up with the brilliant idea to join the police force.
On the application where you are suppose to “confess” any crimes you commited, he admitted that he had molested the 5 kids.
He was baffled why he was being sentence to 15 yrs in prison. Him being a good christian and all.
Its strange but i do feel sorry for him. His family life was quite horrible with abandonment and incredibly amounts of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. The decision to join the military was the trigger that destroyed him as a funtional human being.

I find it very funny when people blame others for already having decided on which side they are, then cherry-picking evidence, and finally blaming others for it.
Vaccination supporters NEVER claimed 100% protection. Instead, the claim was that when we get 100% coverage, the risk of those who did not get immunized to get that disease is lowered, since no one in the herd is spreading disease. And this has worked very well, no real breakouts for a very long time, only some single cases.
But now, when vaccination coverage gets lowered, disease outbreaks have been raising. Failing to see connection here needs tunnel vision if anything.
My friend also gave me fun argument: If you get bitten by an animal which has rabies, will you get the vaccine for it that will save yyour life? Or do you think it is hoax?

What emergency?
The declaration of this national emergency seems suspicious from the start. Where’s the emergency? The number of people killed by swine flu in the United States is far smaller than the number of people killed each year from seasonal flu, according to CDC statistics. People obviously aren’t dropping dead by the millions from H1N1 influenza. Most people are just getting mild flu symptoms and a few days later they’re fine.
So where’s the emergency?
The only emergency I can see is the emergency fabricated by Big Pharma to sell more vaccines. By declaring a national emergency over the H1N1 pandemic, Obama is playing right into their hands.
I find the timing of all this curious. Two days ago, New York gave up on its efforts to require mandatory vaccinations of health care workers. This was designed to defuse a large number of planned protests from health freedom-conscious people who don’t want government-mandated chemicals pumped into their veins.
But you won’t ask the questions, Elaine. You’ll just, as a lemming would, walk to the edge and jump.
It is not clear if this declaration falls under the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601–1651). The act is not mentioned in media reports.
The National Emergencies Act was passed in 1976. It has been extended six times. In 2007, the declaration was strengthened with the issuance of National Security Presidential Directive 51 (NSPD-51) which gave the president the authority to do whatever he deems necessary in a vaguely defined “catastrophic emergency” including everything from canceling elections to suspending the Constitution.
NSPD-51 (National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive) is unconstitutional. It was created on May 4, 2007, as a “presidential directive” (bypassing Congress) and signed by George W. Bush. It claims the power to execute procedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a “catastrophic emergency.” Such an emergency is construed as “any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions.”
In other words, it is a martial law directive. On May 10, 2007, The Washington Post characterized NSPD-51 is a “shadow government” directive
In 2005, a month after Hurricane Rita, a so-called bird flu “crisis” was hyped by the government and the corporate media. “I am concerned about avian flu. I’m concerned about what an avian flu outbreak could mean for the United States and the world… I have thought through the scenarios of what an avian flu outbreak could mean,” Bush declared at the time. “One option is the use of a military that’s able to plan and move. So that’s why I put it on the table. I think it’s an important debate for Congress to have” (emphasis added).
Bush’s directive, signed two years later, did not bother to involve Congress in the “debate.”
Obama’s declaration of a national emergency sets the stage for forced vaccination and internment of people who refuse to be vaccinated.
In January, the National Emergency Centers Establishment Act (HR 645) was introduced in Congress. It calls for the establishment of six national emergency centers in major regions in the US to be located on existing military installations to be used to quarantine people in the case of a public health emergency or forced vaccination program. HR 645 remains in committee.
The H1N1 “crisis” is a manufactured crisis. As noted earlier today, a CBS investigative report reveals that H1N1 flu cases are not as prevalent as we are told by the government, the CDC, WHO, and the corporate media. The so-called epidemic is bogus.
Millions of people are refusing to take the H1N1 vaccine. In the weeks ahead — if Obama’s emergency declaration falls under the above directives — we may witness a move toward martial law, forced vaccination, and internment of those who refuse

Now read this, from the same article, carefully:

So millions of cases and 20,000 hospitalized and ONLY a 1,000 deaths. Which means that of those millions of cases, 20,000 were severe enough to warrant hospitalization and where millions have recovered. But there’s a national emergency for 1,000 deaths. Point is, the number of people recovering is far greater than the death count andn not the opposite and does not merit this fear mongering and propaganda campaign.
Yet, Frieden’s number of ‘millions of cases’ is absurd and is a lie since the WHO has only 414,000 confirmed worldwide cases with 5,000 recorded deaths (1,000 of those in the US). Frieden is most likely speaking of ILI (influenza-like illness) which is normal for this time period until March.

No adverse effects on pregnancy, parturition, lactation, embryo-fetal or pre-weaning development were observed. There were no FluMist related fetal malformations or other evidence of teratogenesis noted in this study.
8.3 Nursing Mothers
It is not known whether Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent Vaccine Live, Intranasal or FluMist is excreted in human milk. The swine flu has been relatively mild but has been striking predominantely the young. Its quite possible that it could mutate into a more virulant form but we have no control over that and as such creating hysteria is not going to do anyone any good.
In Mexico the swine flu is now viewed as a cynical attempt by the gov’t to manipulate the population into agreeing to a roll back of citizen rights. That is why so much satirical jokes and music is being produced. Do remember elaine that music has been historically used by the “powerless” to satire the cruelty and basic unfairness of life.
The swine flu will either remain a mild threat to the majority of the population or it could mutate into something more threatening. Pretending that everyone is going to die from it or that it is a highly virulant killer is dishonest and over zealous. The scientific consensus is that it remains a threat but it is not a global killer as of yet.
Certain people should take extra precaution and get the vaccination but pretendind that everyone is at risk from a global killer is moronic.
The spanish influenza had unique circumstances because of the first world war. Having so many men that were living in squalid conditions, received little more than basic nutrition, and the “stress” of battle gave the flu a perfect breeding grown to mutate into the killer that it became.
Its quite obvious that the swine flu has become something of a “sacred cow” to you. I’m expressing skepticism about the media hyping of the dangers of the swine flu as well as your one woman war against the “flu deniers”
This is clearly an issue that is quite emotional to you and i never meant to cause you any distress. I have not been lobbying against vaccinations or bludgeoning those who feel the need to get vaccinated. There is a shortage of the vaccination and there has to be some sort of rationing for the most at risk.
Its strange that so many medical professionals refuse to get vaccinated considering that they could be putting at risk exactly those people at greatest risk to develop complications (children, pregnant woman, etc).
The portion of the population that believes that vaccines are “dangerous” are a borderline cult. There are obvious risk to complications to getting vaccinated but they are rare and as such not worth getting paranoid about.
Most of the people i know are not going to get the vaccination because they don’t want to get a shot not because they are afraid that they may die from the vaccine.
The people that are afraid of vaccinations are the born again type and assorted health nuts.
You be amazed how many middle class americans think that we are koala bears and should eat a restricted diet of either carbs or uncooked veggies. we are generalist and as such if you want to be health you’ll eat a wide variety of foods and not just some advertised “super” food.
I don’t plan on getting the vaccination because it is too much trouble locating a clinic and then paying a billion dollars. I hate getting sick but its something that i can live with. Getting a flu shot would be cool if they invented a “pill” form instead of the conventional stab the crap out of my arm.
We all take risk and the swine flu does not scare me more than arizona drivers or any other every day risk.

garlic works wonders on bee stings and i have no problem with following my mothers advise on putting garlic on bug bites.

Cash for Appliances Rebate Program

By the end of 2009, consumers nationwide will be able to take advantage of a federal “cash for appliances” program offering rebates on purchases of a wide array of home appliances certified as energy-efficient by the EPA’s Energy Star program.
Backed by an initial $300 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the state-run rebate program is intended to help make American homes more energy-efficient while further stimulating the economy.
“Appliances consume a huge amount of our electricity, so there’s enormous potential to both save energy and save families money every month,” said Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu in a press release. “These rebates will help families make the transition to more efficient appliances, making purchases that will directly stimulate the economy and create jobs.”
States will Run the Rebate Program
Each state will administer its own cash for appliances program. The states will be free to select which residential Energy Star qualified appliances to include in their programs and the individual rebate amount offered for each appliance.
What Can You Buy?
The Department of Energy (DOE) has recommended that the states focus their cash for appliances rebate efforts on heating and cooling equipment, appliances, and water heaters as these products offer the greatest energy savings potential. Energy Star qualified appliance categories eligible for rebates include: central air conditioners, heat pumps (air source and geothermal), boilers, furnaces (oil and gas), room air conditioners, clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, and water heaters.
How Big Will the Rebates Be?
While the states will be free to set actual rebate amounts based on their share of the $300 million, the Department of Energy expects the rebates to range from $50 to $200 per appliance. But wait, there’s more. Any rebates offered by state and local utility districts for purchases of energy-efficient appliances will be added to the federal cash for appliances rebate.
How do You Qualify?
All consumers will need to do to get the rebate is simply buy any qualifying Energy Star appliance. Unlike the “cash for clunkers” fuel-efficient vehicle rebate program, you don’t even need an old trade-in appliance. In addition, consumers will not be required to haul their bulky old appliances to the dealer in exchange for a new one.
When Does it Start?
The states will have until October 15, 2009 to submit their applications for funding and plans for recycling old appliances to the Department of Energy (DOE). The DOE plans to have distributed funding to the states by November 30. As a result, the cash for appliances rebates could be available in stores just in time for Christmas shopping.

Sure makes sense to me. I remember that while we were preparing to attack Iraq, I kept thinking if WMDs aren’t found, that Bush would be impeached in a huge national outrage. After all, war crimes were committed as the result of whitehouse deceit.
Then after the 9/11 cover-up (commission), I thought people would be outraged and demand a full investigation and criminal arrests. Surely, treason and terrorism would on a grand scale would bring the villagers out with torches and pitchforks.

You are confusing the cost of occupation with the cost of war. Rather than strong, drones are making U.S. into hated and marginally effectual occupiers, but weak when it comes to war: Very easy for a real adversary to bring down satellite communications between the video game jocks and the drones. Dr. Diane Harper, lead researcher in the development of two human papilloma virus vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix, said the controversial drugs will do little to reduce cervical cancer rates and, even though they’re being recommended for girls as young as nine, there have been no efficacy trials in children under the age of 15.
Dr. Harper, director of the Gynecologic Cancer Prevention Research Group at the University of Missouri, made these remarks during an address at the 4th International Public Conference on Vaccination which took place in Reston, Virginia on Oct. 2-4. Although her talk was intended to promote the vaccine, participants said they came away convinced the vaccine should not be received.
“I came away from the talk with the perception that the risk of adverse side effects is so much greater than the risk of cervical cancer, I couldn’t help but question why we need the vaccine at all,” said Joan Robinson, Assistant Editor at the Population Research Institute.
Dr. Harper began her remarks by explaining that 70 percent of all HPV infections resolve themselves without treatment within a year. Within two years, the number climbs to 90 percent. Of the remaining 10 percent of HPV infections, only half will develop into cervical cancer, which leaves little need for the vaccine.
She went on to surprise the audience by stating that the incidence of cervical cancer in the U.S. is already so low that “even if we get the vaccine and continue PAP screening, we will not lower the rate of cervical cancer in the US.”
There will be no decrease in cervical cancer until at least 70 percent of the population is vaccinated, and even then, the decrease will be minimal.
Apparently, conventional treatment and preventative measures are already cutting the cervical cancer rate by four percent a year. At this rate, in 60 years, there will be a 91.4 percent decline just with current treatment. Even if 70 percent of women get the shot and required boosters over the same time period, which is highly unlikely, Harper says Gardasil still could not claim to do as much as traditional care is already doing.
Dr. Harper, who also serves as a consultant to the World Health Organization, further undercut the case for mass vaccination by saying that “four out of five women with cervical cancer are in developing countries.”
Ms. Robinson said she could not help but wonder, “If this is the case, then why vaccinate at all? But from the murmurs of the doctors in the audience, it was apparent that the same thought was occurring to them.”
However, at this point, Dr. Harper dropped an even bigger bombshell on the audience when she announced that, “There have been no efficacy trials in girls under 15 years.”
Merck, the manufacturer of Gardasil, studied only a small group of girls under 16 who had been vaccinated, but did not follow them long enough to conclude sufficient presence of effective HPV antibodies.
This is not the first time Dr. Harper revealed the fact that Merck never tested Gardasil for safety in young girls. During a 2007 interview with KPC News.com, she said giving the vaccine to girls as young as 11 years-old “is a great big public health experiment.”
At the time, which was at the height of Merck’s controversial drive to have the vaccine mandated in schools, Dr. Harper remained steadfastly opposed to the idea and said she had been trying for months to convince major television and print media about her concerns, “but no one will print it.”
“It is silly to mandate vaccination of 11 to 12 year old girls,” she said at the time. “There also is not enough evidence gathered on side effects to know that safety is not an issue.”
When asked why she was speaking out, she said: “I want to be able to sleep with myself when I go to bed at night.”
Since the drug’s introduction in 2006, the public has been learning many of these facts the hard way. To date, 15,037 girls have officially reported adverse side effects from Gardasil to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). These adverse reactions include Guilliane Barre, lupus, seizures, paralysis, blood clots, brain inflammation and many others. The CDC acknowledges that there have been 44 reported deaths.
Dr. Harper also participated in the research on Glaxo-Smith-Kline’s version of the drug, Cervarix, currently in use in the UK but not yet approved here. Since the government began administering the vaccine to school-aged girls last year, more than 2,000 patients reported some kind of adverse reaction including nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, convulsions, seizures and hyperventilation. Several reported multiple reactions, with 4,602 suspected side-effects recorded in total. The most tragic case involved a 14 year-old girl who dropped dead in the corridor of her school an hour after receiving the vaccination.
The outspoken researcher also weighed in last month on a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that raised questions about the safety of the vaccine, saying bluntly: “The rate of serious adverse events is greater than the incidence rate of cervical cancer.”
Ms. Robinson said she respects Dr. Harper’s candor. “I think she’s a scientist, a researcher, and she’s genuine enough a scientist to be open about the risks. I respect that in her.”
However, she failed to make the case for Gardasil. “For me, it was hard to resist the conclusion that Gardasil does almost nothing for the health of American women.”

And I varied the pinche to bring out the Latin American meaning, the correct quote is “ni pinchan, ni cortan”, tener poco valimiento o influjo en un asunto. Yes, the dicho al hecho is a proverb but I was thinking in English thus the mistake. Actually, the most correct Spanish is Colombian if I am not mistaken, it is more correct than the Castellano que hablan en Espana hoy dia, coming from the old Castillian.

I have been watching this from the outset back in late March and I was skeptical of it then since there is no way for human/pig/bird strains to have come together – naturally, and I’m more skeptical now. Obama declares swine flu a national emergency (Oct. 25, 2009)
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency, giving his health chief the power to let hospitals move emergency rooms offsite to speed treatment and protect noninfected patients.
The declaration, signed Friday night and announced Saturday, comes with the disease more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays undercutting the government’s initial, optimistic estimates that as many as 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October.
Health authorities say more than 1,000 people in the United States, including almost 100 children, have died from the strain of flu known as H1N1, and 46 states have widespread flu activity. So far only 11 million doses have gone out to health departments, doctor’s offices and other providers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius now has authority to bypass federal rules when opening alternative care sites, such as offsite hospital centers at schools or community centers if hospitals seek permission.
Some hospitals have opened drive-thrus and drive-up tent clinics to screen and treat swine flu patients. The idea is to keep infectious people out of regular emergency rooms and away from other sick patients.
Hospitals could modify patient rules — for example, requiring them to give less information during a hectic time — to quicken access to treatment, with government approval, under the declaration.
It also addresses a financial question for hospitals — reimbursement for treating people at sites not typically approved. For instance, federal rules do not allow hospitals to put up treatment tents more than 250 yards away from the doors; if the tents are 300 yards or more away, typically federal dollars won’t go to pay for treatment.
Administration officials said those rules might not make sense while fighting the swine flu, especially if the best piece of pavement is in the middle of a parking lot and some medical centers already are putting in place parts of their emergency plans.
“I think the term emergency declaration sounds more dramatic than it really is,” said Dr. Peter Hotez, a research professor and chairman of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Medicine at George Washington University. “It’s largely an administrative move that’s more preemptive …” He said such a step would give emergency rooms and hospitals the flexibility they need.
The national emergency declaration was the second of two steps needed to give Sebelius extraordinary powers during a crisis.
On April 26, the administration declared swine flu a public health emergency, allowing the shipment of roughly 12 million doses of flu-fighting medications from a federal stockpile to states in case they eventually needed them. At the time, there were 20 confirmed cases in the U.S. of people recovering easily. There was no vaccine against swine flu, but the CDC had taken the initial step necessary for producing one.
“As a nation, we have prepared at all levels of government, and as individuals and communities, taking unprecedented steps to counter the emerging pandemic,” Obama wrote in Saturday’s declaration.
He said the pandemic keeps evolving, the rates of illness are rising rapidly in many areas and there’s a potential “to overburden health care resources.”
The government now hopes to have about 50 million doses of swine flu vaccine out by mid-November and 150 million in December. The flu virus has to be grown in chicken eggs, and the yield hasn’t been as high as was initially hoped, officials have said.
“Many millions” of Americans have had swine flu so far, according to an estimate that CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden gave Friday. (BEST PART?) good luck with that, over here in arizona my neighbors is getting hysterical because all of the local clinic/hospitals have run out or they still haven’t received a batch.
The poor lady has two kids with asthma and they are chronically sick so she always tries to get them vaccinated against the flu.

btw, the MMR vaccine protects against the measles, mumps and rubella, so its quite likely that those parents are risking their child contracting all three diseases.
Elaine you should have made the male poster here aware that Mumps can sometimes (rarely)cause the testicles of boys or men to swell, which can make them unable to have children. shots suck but having swelled testicles and becoming impotent is way too much of a risk for my taste. thankfully this is a childhood vaccination and my mom had me vaccinated for everything that was offered.
I’m of the impression that the swine flu is being hyped to distract americans from the economic plundering of our nation. I like to make it clear that i don’t find it stupid or crazy to feel a need to get vaccinated against the swine flu or any other disease out there. fyi, colombian spanish is one of the easier accents to understand because they pronounce every noun, vowel, and syllable; it is the closes version of spanish to Mexico’s and as such is super-easy to understand.. spains “spanish” is way too nasal and is difficult to understand if they are poorly educated, while in south america argentines/chileans use vosotros and don’t always pronounce every syllable or vowel. The difficulty in understanding a different variant of spanish is mostly due to slang and is a non-issue when they are educated. Poverty leads to “bumpkin” spanish and its difficult to understand if you are not from that specific region and a moderate level of education easily solves that problem.

While I think some you anti-vax folks are living in cloud cuckoo land part of me hopes that you are correct in your assessment of the swine flu threat since flu vaccine of any kind is practically unavailable to me. I visited my GP’s offfice – multiple doctors, hospital affiliation, and a big city – and there are signs on the door stating that they have no vaccine available – not the original seasonal flu vaccine, nor the H1N1 vaccine.
The government is going to force us all to have vaccines…but you can’t get any vaccine even if you want to. Um, yeah, right guys.
