Terrorists come in all types. Religious groups, ethnic groups, political extremes both right and left, anarchists, ecologists, animal lovers, animal haters: the list is long, very long and seems to cover virtually all human positions in the spectrum. The goal of most societies is to control the populace so that people can go about their business without too much trouble. And this constantly breaks down. This happens, in particular, when economic forces wane and people get poorer rather than doing well.
So here we have it: a pair of young students who, like the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria are on a rampage thousands of miles away from home. This is due to them being fired up by the War on Terror and international politics which are played out very violently in border regions of interest where empires clash.
The intersection of India, China, Pakistan and Afghanistan is Kashmir and this has spawned huge terror events even in distant places like the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed so many people. The Chechnyan terrorists have killed thousands of Russians. Beslan school hostage crisis killed dozens. The 1999 Russian apartment bombings killed hundreds of innocent victims and was done by Chechnya terrorists.
Then there was the Moscow theater hostage crisis which killed more hundreds. Over and over again, I talk about how going to war against a billion Muslims is very dangerous for the US. We have no Muslim provinces although Israeli Jews want to operate their home base as such foisting the US to treat Muslims like second class citizens over there or outright displaced people with zero rights.
This endangers us all here in the US over and over again. We saw how Yugoslavia was turned into a wreck by these same forces whereby people seek to get privileges for their own tribal/religious affiliations. I consider this to be highly dangerous and the US is very much like Yugoslavia when it fell: people don’t like each other and huge groups of people want to eliminate civil rights of other groups so they can enhance their own personal power.
Chechen President blames AMERICA for Boston bomb suspects’ acts of evil because of ‘immoral upbringing’: And see how the blame is handed to us? No, the US did not create this problem. This is an universal problem caused by exclusionary thinking of various groups. For example, the Tibetans rioted not too long about in an attempt to eliminate their fellow Chinese citizens. This was viewed as ‘freedom fighting’ by Westerners who approve of ethnic cleansing when it is aimed at wrecking rival countries.
Years ago, Alexander Lebed, a Russian general, made peace with the Chechnyans only to die soon afterwards in a helicopter crash. This opened the door for Putin to gain power and he cracked down on Chechnya leading to the Second Chechnya War. I had a very small bit to play with General Lebed for we exchanged emails once long ago when I wrote about his negotiations with the Chechnya rebels and he was running ahead of Putin in the polls.
And here is one of the power players from Saudi Arabia who gave great efforts to destabilize Chechnya: Ibn al-Khattab. He was assassinated by a poison letter and this reminds us of two terrorist attacks from white males in the US that came on the heels of Muslim terror attacks: the ricin and the anthrax letters.
It may just be pure coincidence and all the white right wingers who are happy it wasn’t one of them who attacked America with bombs or jets have nothing to celebrate with these poison letter attacks that shadow these events. Something is quite wrong with many aspects of political life and the hysteria of shutting down a major city to catch one terrorist shows how vulnerable we really are.
And how the right wing’s belief that having many guns, etc, will protect them, this is foolish. Just as foolish as leftists and environmentalists who took to bombs and arson and assassinations. They thought they would rouse up everyone into revolt! Instead, it made the State stronger and we lost power but then, people don’t want ‘power’ if this means fanatics, religious lunatics or just angry people terrorize us violently.
Right now, few are complaining about the lockdown but the government’s time for doing this is rapidly running out. People will demand the right to go back to business tomorrow if this continues. So the government is pulling out all stops. The violent shoot-out when they cornered one of the Chechnya students was extreme just like the shootout recently of a black killer cop set the cabin on fire.
All terrorists have good or not so good excuses for their rampages. Many suffer from mental illness of various degrees. Alienation and depression are common feelings and often with psychopaths, they find some excuse for rampages to justify their going out of control like the Norway assassin. There are thousands of excuses for this.
But empires have responsibilities, too and the US has been playing with fire for many years now, using Muslims to attack other empires or weaken their home states. This very dangerous tool has boomeranged here in the US repeatedly and instead of stopping this, we have doubled down and it is a rising, screaming tide which is merging with the ‘we hate women’s rights’ tide here in the US.
That is, anti-liberal, anti-sexual rights are on the warpath. The Chechyans blame us for our freedoms as do the Saudis and so many others. Meanwhile, our freedoms are vanishing due to this endless global war which we can ill afford to fight forever. Ending the civil rights of American women will not stop terrorism. That is domestic terrorism. Forcing raped women to have babies is terrorism, too.
And of course, terrorizing gays and locking them out of society is terrible. We can’t fix America by becoming a religious dictatorship with foreign Popes and local lunatics ordering us how we behave in bed, at home and in private. Any more than Muslims should have any say in how we live our personal lives. Fighting for personal freedom is important and it isn’t done with guns, it is done with ideas. One of which is respect of other’s privacy and rights and tolerance of other ideas and beliefs.
The Boston lockdown should scare Americans. It should never have happened. But will happen again and again if we don’t stop and think about how to behave in a civil society and supporting ethnic cleansing is NOT the way to do this.

I’m in Boston (Charlestown), there’s no lockdown except in very specific areas, otherwise they have advised everyone to not go out. They have shut public transport, Just been out to the store, not as busy as usual/

Yes the unprecedented lockdown of a major metropolitan area for one 19 year old, even a cop-killer, seems strange. My suggestion is that it has as much to do with protecting the public from the very angry police as it does protecting the public from the boy.
Recall the complete leadership failure of the LAPD, in the wake of the cop-killing by Dorner, to anticipate that rage and talk with their own troops. Thus, the LAPD had delusional, enraged police showering unrelated civilians with rapid, inaccurate pistol fire, without provocation. Rather than identifying ineffective police leadership, they trotted out the LAPD chief to announce he was replacing the truck belonging to the innocent women his men shot for no reason.
Roadblocks and requests for people to stay inside (and hopefully some good leadership) keeps the police working as a team instead roaming about as individual patrols in the fog of rage.
Although, I must say the whole “shelter in place” business is concerning; what about those who want to head for the hills, or their relative’s country estate?
Despite whatever bullshit stories fed to you by the m$M and the FBI, and repeated after this comment, Bruce Ivins didn’t send the anthrax letters. That story is as phony as the day is long. You’ve really got to want to believe in the ‘angry white male’, to the point of self delusion, to be a able to swallow the party line on that event. Every time I bring this horrifying fact up, people scream at me as if I am being cruel or mean for pointing out this terrible trap all too many men are finding themselves in.
By the way, more women were murdered with guns by ex-husbands and boyfriends this week and this sad fact should infuriate men not make them scream for more bullets and more guns.

I’m afraid that a division of the US is just what’s in store, Ice, if we can’t turn this thing around; I’ve watched us become more and more divided over the course of my life, and we may already be beyond the point of no return. There is no evidence to accuse Ivins, other than his access to the bacteria. All the records of the lab and for the equipment he would have had to have borrowed from other labs were in order. The processes necessary to make the final material are time consuming, and the clean-up is, of course, as well. Ivins didn’t have the time to do this un-noticed. The driving he was alleged to have done is insane: The exit on I-195 toward Princeton is backed up for a mile onto the Interstate, routinely. That doesn’t take into account getting around/through Baltimore, Delaware, and Philly. Senator Pat Leahy doesn’t believe the cockamamie FBI story; one of his staffers was killed. Why isn’t Batelle arrested? HaHaHa!

China may be the best example. the Han culture has been dominant for the last 4000 years; Mongol and Manchu conquests did nothing to change that. Chinese culture has only within the last 100 years changed in any meaningful way.

Seriously? Slaves learning English to be force fed American ideals? Public schools only to force feed the same ideals to other immigrant ethic “critters”? Outsiders like Kennedy (and others) finally get to participate at the highest levels? (He got killed in a palace coup.)
Problem is that now, ironically, after all that indoctrination of minorities, it’s the pre-revolutionary war, blue-bloods who are the ones that don’t recognize this Country as their own. They’d rather send their children to private school in Switzerland than to become officers in a U.S. military they now consider legionnaires. They’d rather see the U.S. balkanize than sit in a waiting room with minorities for a single-payer healthcare like those nation building plans implemented in most other western Countries. @EMS: Those cities may have had traders passing through, but they were not encouraged to stay and debauch the citizens ( which is derived from city ). Civilizations are ethnic, racial, geographic and unitary and do not have to have cities. The Mongols are but one example of a civilization and quite a sophisticated one that did quite well without permanent cities.

The Martial Law exercise (by wholly militarized police) in Boston was wholly unnecessary. Fact: a half hour after the “Lockdown” was lifted, the boat owner came out of his house for a smoke, and discovered something was amiss with the shrink-wrapping that covered his boat. He called the authorities, and to their credit, the first responders showed up and got the suspect.
I’m thinking this event was LIHOP to see how much the American people will take it.
@ Elaine: The Bible?!? Are you serious?!? You’re not really going to hold up the Bible as reliable source material for historical research, are you?!? I respect any Judeo-Christian beliefs that you may hold, but you’re going to have to do better than that; I could hold up Grimm’s Fairy Tales, or Tolkien’s “Lord Of The Rings” novels as source material to prove the existance of elves, but I doubt that too many people would accept that as proof that elves really exist. The Bible says vanishing little, in fact, almost nothing, about Egyptian culture; except for the (IMHO, mostly, if not entirely fictional) stories of Joseph, and the Exodus, it says little about Egypt at all; for crying out loud, Exodus doesn’t even give us the name of the Pharoah, which would seem to be a pretty important detail to mention, at least once.
In any event, I was talking about CULTURE, not RACE; culture can, and often does, transcend race. Sure, the ancient Egyptians were racially diverse, just the same as modern Egyptians are; it was ancient Egypt’s culture that was largely static and unchanging for over 2500 years, with Egyptians of all races, with the exception of a minority community of Hebrews, belonging to a common culture, who’s prestige and influence extended even beyond Egypt’s borders, into Nubia, and, to some extent, even the Hebrews, both inside Egypt, and to the east in Canaan, where Akhenaton’s monotheiest experiment influenced primitive Judaism.
