ISIS ‘Reign of Terror’: Children Beheaded, Crucified, Buried Alive …One hundred years before the Macedonian general, Alexander the Great crushed Greece, and three hundred years before Rome turned the Greek great thinkers and people into slaves, the Athenians who are greatly admired for their ‘democracy’ and culture were actually on the rampage, raping, murdering, stealing and abusing everyone else even fellow Greeks, no less, in brutal materialistic wars. Think the ISIS and other Islamic warriors are nasty? No nastier than the cultivated, intelligent ancient Athenians.
The very first real historian was Thucydides who wrote detailed chain of events, diplomacy, speeches, actions and philosophy of rulers 2,400 years ago in Greece. His massive opus is The History of the Peloponnesian War, by Thucydides 431 BC which details all the tragic diplomatic choices and brutal warfare that raged across the Mediterranean Sea as Athens fought Sparta after the great victories against Persia that Americans seem to like celebrating in movies like the ▶ 300 –
The Athenians now withdrew from the conference; and the Melians…answered: “Our resolution, Athenians, is the same as it was at first. We will not in a moment deprive of freedom a city that has been inhabited these seven hundred years; but we put our trust in the fortune by which the gods have preserved it until now…Meanwhile we invite you to allow us to be friends to you and foes to neither party…”
The Athenian envoys now returned to the army; and the Melians showing no signs of yielding, the generals at once betook themselves to hostilities…Subsequently the Athenians returned with most of their army….and besieged the place.
…the Melians attacked by night and took the part of the Athenian lines over against the market, and killed some of the men, and brought in corn and all else that they could find useful to them, and so returned and kept quiet, while the Athenians took measures to keep better guard in future.
(After many more events)…the Melians again took another part of the Athenian lines which were but feebly garrisoned 9due to uprisings elsewhere requiring Athenian troops).
Reinforcements afterwards arriving from Athens in consequence, under the command of Philocrates, son of Demeas, the siege was now pressed vigorously; and some treachery taking place inside, the Melians surrendered at discretion to the Athenians, who put to death all the grown men whom they took, and sold the women and children for slaves, and subsequently sent out five hundred colonists and inhabited the place themselves.
Socrates was around when all this was happening and fought in several key battles such as Battle of Potidaea. Thycydides was a general who failed in one of the many sieges of this long drawn out war and he ended up writing history while in exile. The long, long wars that raged nearly out of control killed the Athenian democracy and in the twilight of the ‘great hour’ at the top of the cultural pyramid, Greece fell a long, long ways downwards until the lands ended up enslaved repeatedly for thousands of years. Not dozens or even hundreds but for over 2,000 years.
ECB Tells Greek Banks Not to Boost Exposure to Athens Government’s Debt as the clock relentlessly ticks downwards to Doomsday. The collapse of Greece may destroy the entire European Union confederacy which wouldn’t shock me at all since no confederacy lasts very long in any crisis situation since no one has reason to suffer for other entities’ sins. That is, why make a sacrifice for someone you don’t control?
The Greek wars over 2,000 years ago were not wars with strangers but rather ALLIES who were various levels of interaction inside of a loose confederation. It didn’t work. The US is at war with many many millions of angry Muslims and every time we waste trillions of dollars and the lives of citizens fighting these endless wars, we win nothing when we win because victory collapses within weeks or even hours of our ‘victories’.
These are bankrupting the US worse than the bankruptcy in Greece.
BREAKING NEWS: Saudi Arabia starts bombing Yemen – envoy because the ruler of Yemen has fled and the rebels have taken over. Saudi Arabia and the US/NATO forces have been using cowardly assassin drones for years in Yemen in order to control the Muslim populations there and this has been a 100% failure as I said from day one.
Assassin drones don’t work. Ever. They are stupid, a waste, evil, war criminal stuff. We should be ashamed of using this tool. It doesn’t work because it only makes opponents stronger, not weaker. ISIS was born in Saudi Arabia just like al Qaeda and for the exact same reasons and al Qaeda, far from being dead after the illegal assassination of bin Laden, is 100% bigger and stronger today thanks to the methods we used to kill bin Laden.
I said way back then, the assassination of bin Laden was stupid and cowardly and would destabilize Pakistan which it certainly has done. All the dreadful things happening there today were made much worse by US diplomacy and policies and war methods. Just like ancient Greece with some of the world’s top, greatest philosophers and historians who were very civilized and cultivated and intelligent, all walking helplessly into slavery, debt, destruction, collapse and of course, war crimes…we don’t hold our heads as high as these great thinkers and doers who did themselves straight into hell.
The debates that raged in Athens while these disasters were created is most interesting to read and our Founding Fathers greatly admired the Thucydides history above all other histories which is why they were so adamant about overseas adventures and entanglements and argued that these should be avoided at all costs as well as religious warfare which they knew was quite toxic.
We have tons more histories written in the last 2,500 years yet we learn absolutely nothing from any of this which is why the Goddess of History is a bloody bitch who sits on a pile of corpses, laughing hysterically while She writes with her bloody pen, all the lovely disasters She sees.
