EU Court Rules Against Newspaper Concerning Reader Comments About Corporation: Censorship Is Enforced Or Else

This won’t make any news in US media giants all of whom either censor comments totally or don’t allow any at all:  European court blames website for hosting offensive comments in ‘shock’ decision — RT News which is Russian News not EU or US news and of course, they delight in pointing out that the ‘free West’ isn’t free at all which is true.  We barely maintain free speech in the US, for example.  But lord help anyone who strays into saying even in ‘private’ media like personal twitter accounts, the wrong PC thing.  Then they are fired from their jobs and tortured in various ways none of which involve courts.  But in Europe, Political Correctness is enforced by laws and people go to prison for even the smallest violations of byzantine rules about what you can or cannot say or publish.

The nine-year case started over a seemingly trivial article, about an Estonian ferry company that destroyed ice roads when it opened new routes. It was published in January 2006 on the country’s leading Delfi.ee news portal. The piece attracted over 20 particularly rude comments targeting the owner of the company, calling him “scum” and a “bastard,” and issuing threats against him.

The owner, Vjatšeslav Leedo, spotted the comments six weeks after the article went up, and immediately complained to Delfi, which deleted them within a day. However, Leedo went further, and sued Delfi for defamation…

But on June 16, the ECHR upheld the original court decision, claiming that the comments were “manifestly unlawful” and constituted “hate speech,” also noting that “the ability of a potential victim of hate speech to continuously monitor the Internet is more limited than the ability of a large commercial Internet news portal to prevent or rapidly remove such comments.”

This was despite the judges’ conclusion that the Delfi’s article itself “was a balanced one, contained no offensive language and gave rise to no arguments about unlawful statements.”

And the door slams shut in Europe.  Oh, the irony.  I recall all the EU and US NATO warmongers marching in Paris all shrieking, ‘We are all Hebdo!’ supposedly in the name of free speech.  I said back then that it was pure garbage, street theater designed to make the impression that our rulers want us to be rude and crude like that magazine.

Nope.  Not at all, not even slightly.  They are very anxious to crush free speech and in the US, the tool used today is to humiliate and harass and fire professors or teachers or business people or anyone who dares cross various invisible lines.  It is OK to call for the annihilation of Palestinians and make fun of them like Hebdo did in Paris but do something even slightly like this to Jews and bam: you are annihilated by the same free speech people.

The US is already killing commentary on the internet but is far behind Japan and the EU in censorship and legal enforcements. And furthermore, the only reason we still have some free speech here is thanks to our Constitution which Congress and Presidents work hard to undermine, ignore or kill off.

“… the wrong PC thing.” The whole point of political correctness is to camouflage its real intent. Here’s an example from Miinneapolis newspaper. They will NOT describe the Washington Redskins NFL team as the Redskins. The PC police at the Mpls newspaper, will use the term “Washington football team”. And of course, it’s the same thing with the Cleveland Indians baseball team. Absolutely ridiculous, as if they care. Imho, here’s the REAL point of the Mpls newspaper doing this: they want to establish a track record, a history of censorship so that when something these PC police really DO want censored, it won’t look so obvious. It’s all very cynical. BTW: did you notice I didn’t mention this “Mpls newspaper” by name? I won’t!! Two can play this “political correctness” game. I’m not going to soil this website by mentioning this rag of a newspaper by its name. I do not expect to be thanked for this.

I wonder how many of us posting on Elaine’s website are under observation due to the politically incorrect opinions expressed here.

Mostly what is going on is simple: reduce the consensus by making it dangerous or impossible to comment online about anything at all. This way, we get only the Pravda versions set up by our masters.

I have posted on the internet way way way way back when only NASA and the CIA used it thanks to logging onto my father’s computer. It was much freer back then and you can bet I had more than one discussion about international affairs and we had raging arguments indeed over various topics especially the missile shield business Reagan endorsed.

In the 1990’s it was a free for all and I had not the slightest problem with being censored because I was always polite and on topic and sane.

SUDDENLY in 1999 it began to collapse rapidly and by October, 2001, censorship and silencing everyone shot through the roof. I was eliminated from ALL mainstream media very swiftly.

Before then, I had a good record with my letters to the editor of the NYT and WP and Atlantic Monthly, etc. publishing me and some papers even gave me column inches…and this all vanished nearly instantly. I am now a Verboten Mensch.

@#2Ken: I think the detention center where they plan on keeping us was built quite some time ago. I’m just wondering if they will put us all in the same cell block. You know, keep all the “rotten eggs” in one basket as it were. ###Elaine: manufactured consensus. Yes, that’s what they are trying to do. They won’t come out and say the truth, which is they want a monopoly on public opinion. It’s a form of dictatorship under a very thin veneer of “democracy”. And, the MSM is not in the business of truth telling. They are in the business of selling false narratives and they want NO challenges to their dogma or plans of playing World Conquest.

Similarly, watch what you say about the negroes. You can be absolutely destroyed for mentioning that some of their behavior is, ahem, off-color.🙂

Free speech won’t help America when it collapses..

The “Powers That Be” had been working for years to completely control the political, economic, and cultural narrative in this country. They consolidated the media (TV, radio, newspapers, book publishing and Hollywood) into the hands of five or six major corporations. They had 90% total control. Then the Internet came along, something they didn’t foresee. They are now working feverously to gain control of it. They will succeed if we don’t all do something to prevent it. The Internet is our last hope of living as a free people.

To build a fence to keep out aliens is not politically correct.
To build a fence to keep out knowledge is.
Once there were gatekeepers. The internet ousted the gatekeepers for a while.
Now, the internet is too important to be allowed to remain un-gated and where there are gates; there the gatekeepers will again hold sway.

    What is Japans censorship law[s]?

Japan, no one now dares say anything in public anymore.
