More Stupid Global Warming Studies Make The News

The billions of dollars sent to universities to study ‘climate change’ is obscene and has utterly corrupted climate science.  All the final products of this misguided research has to presume that CO2 is an Evil Gas and will roast us all to death so we have to stop it from breathing out of the Pacific Ocean where most of it comes from and resume Ice Age CO2 conditions which means reduction in plant growth. Since ‘scientists’ have to admit that plants adore CO2, it is their essential food after all…the new push is to make CO2 that increases plant growth appear evil. That is, it isn’t as good as stuff growing under CO2 starvation levels.  Of course, this stunts growth.

The regurgitation of really silly ‘research’ all pointing at the idea that warmer climates in the northern hemisphere (where glaciation is mile thick most of the last 2 million years) are not good for anyone.  Here is a particularly disturbing and stupid example:   Climate change will not reduce the deaths of senior citizens caused by winters | Times Gazette

According to the study’s lead author, Patrick L. Kinney, “Some have claimed that warmer winters due to climate change will lead to big reductions in winter deaths. Our work suggests that this is unlikely to be the case.”

Kinney revealed that apart from excessive cold temperatures, flu and respiratory conditions have a part to play in the deaths of the aged during winter seasons. He also added that low humidity, excessive time indoors, lack of exercise, and other related factors disturb people’s immunity during winter periods and contribute to higher mortality.

The truth however remains that even if winter may not be responsible for people’s death, winter makes people to exercise less and to spend more time indoors, which invariably play a role in their winter deaths.

What?  So, in northern cold climates that are not very warm even after the Hottest Year EVAH still see higher winter death rates…and even if it is slightly warmer so it is only -10 below zero instead of -20 below zero, this won’t make things better for people?  Huh?  After all, what ‘confines people to their homes’ in even a ‘warm’ winter?  The cold! A warmer winter in Antarctica means it goes from -110 degrees F to -95 degrees F.  Practically speaking, this is a meaningless change.  The thing that really shifts is when temperatures go above freezing all the time.

This means any snow storms melt quickly, for example.  It also means one can leave the house easier due to it being easy to walk when you are not going into 5 feet of snow on the ground.  People in cities have the municipality clean the streets but it is still brutal walking on streets surrounded by high buildings because these are wind tunnels.  I used to live in NYC during the coldest winters of the last 80 years and commuting to midtown meant struggling to walk into the teeth of the North Wind in midtown Manhattan.

So how does global warming of the Northern Hemisphere NOT help people?  Well, the theology of this movement is, winter will vanish from the Northern Hemisphere and everyone will move to the North Pole to avoid balmy temperatures.  So, if there is no winter, there are going to be no elderly trapped in their homes by vicious blizzards one after the other like we had last winter.

All of these goofy studies which are actually frauds are thanks to government funding.  From one year ago: Interior Department Announces Funding for Climate Change Studies

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell announced today that the Department of the Interior’s regional Climate Science Centers and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Climate Change and Wildlife Science Center are awarding nearly $6 million to universities and other partners for 50 new research projects to better prepare communities for impacts of climate change.

“These climate studies are designed to help address regional concerns associated with climate change, providing a pathway to enhancing resilience and supporting local community needs,” said Secretary Jewell. “The impacts of climate change are vast and complex, so studies like these are critical to help ensure that our nation’s responses are rooted in sound science.”

As part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, the 50 scientific studies announced today will focus on how climate change is affecting natural and cultural resources and tribal communities, as well as inform management actions that can be taken to help offset those impacts. The research can help guide managers of parks, refuges and other cultural and natural resources to plan how to help species, ecosystems, tribes and other communities adapt to climate change. The studies, most of which will occur over multiple years, will be conducted with fiscal year 2014 funding. A full list of the projects is available here.

Federal Climate Change Funding from FY2008 to FY2014

Direct federal funding to address global climate change totaled approximately $77 billion

Here is yet another study that appears to be ‘science’ but isn’t:  Claim: Climate will inhibit bread dough from rising | Watts Up With That?

“At AgFace, experimental crops are grown in the open, surrounded by thin tubes that eject carbon dioxide into the air around the plants. We can do this under very natural conditions, as close as you can get to an environment that crops would see in a farmer’s field in the future,” he said.

Screen shot 2015-06-22 at 9.39.46 AM

Here is a photo of this ‘research project’.  First off, hardly enough flour can be made from this small plot to make multiple loaves.  Maybe Jesus could fix this.  Secondly, note how the wheat plants with the CO2 are not growing any better than the non-CO2 plants which means that the CO2 concentration is insignificant.  Thirdly,  if this were a real experiment both wheat plants would have to be isolated in greenhouses with strictly controlled CO2 levels.   Even then baking some bread to prove anything is ridiculous since the act of using yeast, how much warmth is applied during rising, etc. are all huge variables!

A comment from a reader:

“As close as you can get?” Nonsense. There’s no control whatsoever over the CO2 concentration at the stomata of the plants. The distribution pipes are not clearly visible. but it’s likely that the CO2 gets swept away by the slightest breeze before it can reach and enter the stomata.

If they’re using pure CO2 gas, it will drop the humidity, which could dry the leaf interior and cause the stomata to close, assuming any of the CO2 supply reaches them. (Humidified CO2 would result in condensation in the supply piping and uneven gas flow.)

This is the stupidest attempt at an experiment I’ve ever seen.

trouble is we are getting the long roast out here, very weird. PDO? well i looked that up its hardly decadal , actually stochastic. same with el nino” 9 yrs lol, Jet stream seems stuck so we are warm Elaine is cold. Looking at the PDO chart/history, the pacific has been warm before and not cold since the 70’s yet our weather now is exceptional, so the old explanations are not holding up.

Good luck with getting balmy, comfortable temps in Arctic. When I visited Tuktoyaktuk at Summer Solstice in 2011 it was over 30C (over 85F) for 24 hours a day. Happily I was lucky to get an air conditioned hotel room.

There was no visible sea ice in the Arctic ocean to the horizon. There was still some winter ice inland in one long, brackish, wind protected bay but it was fighting the inevitable. I waded in the Arctic Ocean and it was bearably chilly.

The Mackenzie River Delta ice road had melted early driving shipping costs up for the remote community that has no summer road access. And building a summer road through never ending, myriad potholes formed from pingos and all that permafrost won’t soon happen even if temps stay warm. There’ll be too short a winter road season and no summer road. I guess the Inuit will be praying for an ice age.

ELAINE: So,it was warmer than the Great Lakes…er…this is exactly the sort of thing that heralds another Ice Age is, Alaska is warmer than Montreal.

  3. Jim R

ziff, we got your rain over here in Texas. I’d send it back if I could.

  4. Elaine, we are globally warming and unless we really screwed the pooch with excess CO(2), this bout of global warming will eventually soon collapse into a 100,000 years’ ice age, just like the other bouts did for the past 2 million years.

  5. ziff

    Jim , yes!
Elaines ”denialist” views are amusing in that if they get it wrong it will be the scandal of the century.

  6. Jim R

Yeah, I find Elaine’s denial amusing as well. She quotes from this crackpot anti-science website as if it were the Bible or something …

Of course the notion that government funding will have much beneficial effect is probably a false hope. Call it what you want, a civilizational stage, business cycle, wriggling mass of maggots, empire in crisis, malthusian epiphany, or whatever. The government is unlikely to accomplish much at this sort-of ‘lame duck’ stage, and CO2 will not be the most pressing item on the agenda in the near, foreseeable future.

  7. Lou

Of course the notion that government funding will have much beneficial effect is probably a false hope.

It is not about tax payer funding. It is about taxation.
EMS is right about ‘gore n the Pope in their palaces while the peons freeze’.
    That is happening, now.
    Do YOU deny that fact?

  8. vengeur

So, for the French skeptic, no room at the inn.

  9. Elaine Supkis

Yup, as it cools the global warming hysteria grows greater. I thought it was warming way back in 2000 and it was.

    But not since then.

I now ‘deny’ it is warming because it is getting physically colder and I happen to live where glaciation is a mile thick every Ice Age so paying attention to Ice Age warning signs is highly important. Contrary to the bizarre belief system of liberals that everyone is moving north because it is too hot, the contrary is true except for ONE factor: poor people seeking first world welfare systems are moving north.

Eliminate that and no one would be moving towards colder climate conditions.

  10. @Elaine: “I thought it was warming way back in 2000 and it was.

    But not since then.”

In your neck of the woods.

But globally, the NOAA graph showing the cooling is now going hockey-sticked — in favor of global warming!

Combined with Greenland melting, maybe you’ll get your ice age yet!

  11. Jim R

Just now shooting past the 2-sigma band for this year. The proximal cause is a blowtorch-like branch of the jet stream aimed right at Greenland. Really just part of the general chaos, of which CO2 is a part…

ELAINE: You know, we are having sort of normal temperatures here, too and this happened during the 1970’s periodically. Doesn’t change the fact that the Jet Stream loops down more and more over the eastern half of North America with disastrous cold results.

  12. Lou

and what am I suppose to do? AGW? yawn.
    what can I do?

Guy McPherson, professor emiritus in conservation biology(?) etc of Nature Bats Last Blog lectures around the world on this topic. He has actually built his own survival homestead in New Mexico.

Here is a link to Guy McPhersons always updated climate change summary:

  14. Elaine Supkis

Funny, druing the Little Ice Age, New Mexico saw a catastrophic population collapse.

  15. Lou

He has actually built his own survival homestead in New Mexico.

= The Desert. In a collapse thats not the worst place, cities would be the worst and suburbs second to worst.

    [EMS, druing ??]

I brought this issue up before and you apparently still don’t get it.

Plants cannot absorb higher and higher levels of fossil fuel CO2. They are incapable of absorbing more than a small amount of excess atmospheric CO produced from fossil fuel burning.

The above statement says that you DO NOT UNDERSTAND any of this.

  17. Elaine Supkis

UM…my trees are growing rapidly! They simply grow FASTER. So individual leave pick up no more excess CO2 but THERE ARE MORE OF THESE. See? If ten people eat hamburgers and more hamburgers appear, they don’t eat more, there are more babies who grow up to eat more hamburgers. I hope this helps.

There’s a good image from this blog post by UE weather Prof Cliff Mass showing the recent and projected Pacific high temps and the Hudson Bay cold temps.

Yeah, but Greenland wasn’t melting like crazy in the 70s. Neither were Alaska, Yukon, NWT and Nunavut ridiculously warm. Ditto Siberia.
