Google Changed Search Engine So It Doesn’t Show Smaller Sites

Once upon a time, back when the Internet worked much better than today, if I googled my own site, I would get lots and lots of pages of information.  Today, I get 2 listings, if I am lucky, mostly only 1 listing using the same search words I used in the past to bring up dozens of pages.  This ridiculous change was done to hide information, not help us find more information.  Now, when I google other sites I want to explore, I get only one or two listings, the rest is pure junk mostly barely related to what I want.

Google Algorithm Change History – MozGoogle Turning Its Lucrative Web Search Over to AI Machines – a year ago which are programmed to be profitable by hawking various web sites while punishing smaller web sites.

For any other company that would be a wonky distraction from its core business. At Google, the two are intertwined. Artificial intelligence sits at the extreme end of machine learning, which sees people create software that can learn about the world. Google has been one of the biggest corporate sponsors of AI, and has invested heavily in it for videos, speech, translation and, recently, search.

For the past few months, a “very large fraction” of the millions of queries a second that people type into the company’s search engine have been interpreted by an artificial intelligence system, nicknamed RankBrain, said Greg Corrado, a senior research scientist with the company, outlining for the first time the emerging role of AI in search.

These damn robot machines have made using Google nearly useless.  When I pursue various topics there, the junk that shows up on page one is incredible.  The more I use Google, the worse the junk.  It is now reaching terminal junk.

The ‘vectors’ this stupid system uses are designed to react to past searches rather than providing new information.  This ‘collect the junk’ system is getting worse each year and we are only in year one, as this new system runs more and more off the rails.  If I Google my blog name and my name together, I get more of my own stuff on the front page of the search.  Generally speaking, I get more artwork when searching which is reflecting the fact, I am guessing, that the visual art section of Google is still pretty much the old system?

I don’t know for Google says little about changes it makes!  It is fairly random at the art side of the search, that is all I know.   FAQ: All about the Google RankBrain algorithm:

What is RankBrain?
RankBrain is Google’s name for a machine-learning artificial intelligence system that’s used to help process its search results, as was reported by Bloomberg and also confirmed to us by Google.

What is machine learning?
Machine learning is where a computer teaches itself how to do something, rather than being taught by humans or following detailed programming.

What is artificial intelligence?
True artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is where a computer can be as smart as a human being, at least in the sense of acquiring knowledge both from being taught and from building on what it knows and making new connections.

True AI exists only in science fiction novels, of course. In practice, AI is used to refer to computer systems that are designed to learn and make connections.

How’s AI different from machine learning? In terms of RankBrain, it seems to us they’re fairly synonymous. You may hear them both used interchangeably, or you may hear machine learning used to describe the type of artificial intelligence approach being employed.

So RankBrain is the new way Google ranks search results?
No. RankBrain is part of Google’s overall search “algorithm,” a computer program that’s used to sort through the billions of pages it knows about and find the ones deemed most relevant for particular queries.

This new ‘intelligence system’ is DUMB.  Annoying as all hell.  And speaking of dumb, WordPress, my host site, has screwed me up, too.  They keep adding stuff to their posting system cluttering it up and making it incredibly annoying to use and this also pisses me off.

I believe that people are told to do these useless, annoying things in order to justify jobs and to make bosses look busy.  Tinkering with things making them harder and harder or weaker and weaker to use is a common human trait.  The Web was near perfection back three years ago and now it is an increasing mess, annoying to use and more dangerous, not safer.

I have been online since the Internet was invented and before the Internet when it was a government communication internal system linking universities to the Pentagon and CIA.  HAHAHA.  Annoyed them all by using it during the Vietnam War to talk to other schools when we were planning antiwar events.

It is huge now and at the same time, less and less free.  Note how Google has collapsed, instead of freeing people and defying governments, it cooperates with tyrants:  Google bows to Thai demands to censor criticism of the monarchy.  Facts about Thailand’s royal defamation law appear in the English press (not the US media which ignores this sort of stuff) show that it is very nasty, very similar to North Korea, for exampls.

Of course, You Tube is censoring people critical of our rulers, too!  Americans are being heavily censored now, increasingly under fire by liberals who don’t believe in free speech: Bombshell Emails Expose YouTube Censorship of Content at Hillary Clinton’s Office Request

Washington, D.C. – In response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in the Benghazi investigation, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was forced to release e-mails from a private account used to conduct official State Department business.

Amongst the emails released online, via the FOIA, was a document with the title “Google and YouTube.” Within the correspondence, a Clinton staffer forwarded the personal contact information of Google and YouTube’s CEOs on to the Secretary’s Office, according to Andrew Demeter, writing for Minds.

The email was allegedly in regards to a request to block an unknown YouTube video.

None of this makes much news in our increasingly single minded media as mergers worsen:  AT&T Reaches Deal to Buy Time Warner for $85.4 Billion.   All our systems are being merged with one goal: to control information and break the back of internet users who are not making money for the real rulers.

By the way, in the old days of yore, this merger would have been nixed right away by our government.  Which no longer really exists, of course.  This is what fuels the rage of our rulers again Trump, he is outside their system, not a Bilderberg co-conspirator.  They really do fear him.

Trump on media coverage: They poison the voters – YouTube

And a blast from the past about myself as I was banned from ‘liberal’ sites that can’t stand anyone arguing with them:  Anyone heard from Elaine Supkis lately? From 2006:

The Daily Kos banned me for arguing intelligently.  “Are We Headed for Another Great Depression?” – Talks with Elaine Meinel Supkis – By Mike Whitney – May 12th 2007 | Love for Life reprinted a story about me, too!  Amazing, isn’t it?  If I held all the liberal positions and never warned anyone about the ongoing disaster of the sex/race relations messes, I would be loved by liberals but then I would have to believe that humans and not the sun are super warming the planet that is cooling off right now.

Yoiks.  Can’t have that.  Disputes are evil as far as liberals are now concerned.  This sad state of affairs will only worsen as people revolt against more and more liberal programs that don’t work like public education reforms that wreck schools.

Smoking Gun’ Email Confirms DNC Involvement In Inciting Violence At Trump Rallies | Zero Hedge reports and the US media giants like Google News and others don’t report.

Earlier today we wrote about a new Project Veritas undercover video that uncovered several democratic operatives openly discussing, in explicit detail, how to commit massive voter fraud. One of the operatives was a person by the name of Robert Creamer who is a co-founder of a democratic consulting firm called Democracy Partners. Within the video, an undercover journalist details a plan to register Hispanic voters illegally by having them work as contractors, to which Creamer can be heard offering support saying that “there are a couple of organizations that that’s their big trick” (see: “Rigging Elections For 50 Years” – Massive Voter Fraud Exposed By Project Veritas Part 2″).

Unfortunately, the embarrassing video caused Creamer to subsequently resign from consulting the Hillary campaign as he issued a statement saying that he was “stepping back from my responsibilities working the [Hillary] campaign” over fears that his continued assistance would be a distraction for the campaign.

But voter fraud isn’t Creamer’s only criminal specialty. A quick look at Wikipedia reveals that Creamer spent 5 months in federal prison back in 2006 for a “$2.3 million bank fraud in relation to his operation of public interest groups in the 1990s.”

So, with that kind of history, you can imagine our surprise when we discovered that a Mr. Robert Creamer showed up on the White House visitor logs 340 times beginning in 2009 when Obama took office and culminating with his latest visit in June 2016. Moreover, in 45 of those instances, Creamer was scheduled to meet with POTUS himself. Perhaps this is just two old Chicago “community organizers” hanging out?…

Finally, Creamer’s wife is none other that Jan Schakowsky, a U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 9th congressional district which she has served since 1999.

Yes, the dirty tricks Democrat is married to a Congress woman who is a buddy of Hillary and thus, had access to the White House to plot all sorts of illegal stuff and Google will hide this information by swamping it in search results with tons of junk.  This accumulation of junk in searches is deliberate, our rulers don’t want us to find stuff easily by connecting any dots.

Speaking of searches!  FBI Served with Request for Hillary’s Backup Device…Object Is in FBI’s Possession | SOTN: Alternative News & Commentary…a small online news service explains stuff our major media refuse to talk about at all:

The existence of this device is generating behind-the-scenes frenzy in the Beltway as the FBI continues to get hammered over its investigation of the Clinton email scandal. FBI director James Comey conducted an investigation based on small partial email discoveries here and there. The fact that the FBI did not look at all of her emails actually helped Clinton to avoid prosecution. What if the FBI had considered all the emails that were just released by Wikileaks, instead of just the emails that Comey found in small batches of 30? Could that have changed the result and led to a prosecution?

So much stuff to hide!  And these clowns will destroy all systems in order to hide crimes.  This is the only reason why Hillary is not under arrest: a gigantic conspiracy on the left to hide their crimes against the world including us citizens here in the US.  Instead, all we get is a bunch of bleached bimbos (another literal whore today) claiming Trump KISSED them, the silly addle headed dears!

1,000 Clinton-Petraeus emails missing from records sent to State, FBI files show | Fox News reports since the New York Times and Washington Post have given up reporting the real news.

In a heavily redacted FBI interview summary from Aug. 17, 2015, a State Department employee from the Office of Information and Programs and Services (IPS), which handles Freedom of Information Act requests, discussed how Petraeus’ records apparently were not among the work-related emails provided by the former secretary’s team.

“CENTCOM records shows approximately 1,000 work-related emails between Clinton’s personal email and General David PETRAEUS, former Commander of CENTCOM and former Director of the CIA,” said the employee, whose name is redacted, according to the summary. “Most of those 1,000 emails were not believed to be included in the 30,000 emails that IPS was reviewing. Out of the 30,000 emails, IPS only had a few emails from or related to PETRAEUS as well as a few related to Leon PANETTA, former Secretary of Defense.”

The same employee reported on a January 2015 status briefing about the emails given by State Department senior official Patrick Kennedy who is now at the center of “quid pro quo” allegations – that he offered to help the FBI get more slots for agencies overseas in exchange for downgrading an email to unclassified. The FBI and State now emphasize the deal never happened.

“KENNEDY and [redacted] were each provided with two binders full of email examples of documents [redacted] believed were possibly classified. [Redacted] returned her binders to [redacted] but KENNEDY decided to keep his binders following the brief. [Redacted] was not aware of anyone in IPS or at STATE who received the rules or parameters the CLINTON team and/or WILLIAMS & Connolly used to segregate Clinton’s personal and office work emails.”

As previously reported by Fox News, there are still two missing “bankers boxes” of emails that cannot be accounted for by Hillary Clinton’s legal team Williams & Connolly.

Good lord.  Thank you, Wikileaks and Assange.  Assange, the man being silenced by our Real Rulers as if this is North Korea.  Land of the free!  Right.

Google is useless for tech searches too, but it’s hard to express exactly how. I get a lot of entertainment or marketing results for a piece of computer hardware instead of forums or specs, is one example. You used to be able to filter explicitly for forums but that is long gone. And certainly the results based on previous searches is infuriating.

Google has been pretty blunt about making money through pushing ads and monetizing everything it does, over satisfying real curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Hence it’s dropping of popular projects like Reader, Deskbar, Labs, iGoogle and too many more to mention here. And lets face it, the average search is for where to eat and what some celeb is doing right now.

But surely the most disheartening aspect is the cooperation with the alphabet agencies and nefarious Govs. I guess that’s why they changed their name to, err, “Alphabet”. All you have to do to see how ‘they’ think is to find a few quotes from Eric Schmidt (current Exec Chairman of Alphabet, Google’s parent).

That Mozcast site, linked above in your article Elaine, has a good blogpost on RankBrain, the AI that makes current search results so annoying. Quote:

“Essentially, machine learning systems move away from serving up 10 blue links and asking a user to choose one of them and toward providing the actual correct answers, further eliminating the need for lower positions.”

Personally, I want the 10 blue links back.

(((google))) had a great map system that they modified and changed.
I avoid it and use ‘Duckduckgo’ but I do use You tube.

  4. Lou

There are many other search engines.

  5. Lou

Another thought, (((Brin, is that his name?))) and company want so much information and what I call ‘tie ins.’
Like sites where comments can be made, IF done thru Facebook. Another reason I dislike and avoid (((google))). I dont want my email thru them, etc.

  6. emsnews

Yes, the fewer and fewer places with comments are using facebook, etc. more and more. Sad, isn’t it?

  7. I was lucky to find out you by a strong but almost hidden comment you did on zerohegde 10 years ago. I would recommend you to use duckduckgo search engine and do more comments around the internet to call attention to your own blog. ( And I wish you go back doing vlogs or start a patreon ) 😀

ELAINE: I wish I could but my limitations due to caring for 4 (yes FOUR) very disabled elderly people has made that impossible to do.

AI and the IoT were predicted 2 or 3 decades ago by Red Dwarf:

… with hilarious results. Unfortunately the architects of this mess never got the memo that people don’t want their appliances to talk to them. (or spy)

  9. emsnews

I loved Red Dwarf but talk about claustrophobic! Yikes. sometimes too much. Funny as hell, though.
