The anti-austerity demonstrators in Italy have been joined by the police.  There were few protests during the Berlusconi era even though the crimes and corruption of that period were rampant.  It seems the Italians liked this situation.  The thing is, US media is generally not reporting much of any of this.  Fascist demonstrations are raging all over Europe.  The US is just fine with these demonstrations that want to have a kleptocracy replace the stern German ‘do your duty and pay your taxes’ regime.  Just as the US Tea Party wanted to keep the status quo including any social programs that serviced them (Alaska being the top state when it comes to government handouts), the EU rightwingers also want to have their socialist cake while eating capitalist baked goods.

I worked for many years building or rebuilding houses.  I watched wages in that field collapse after 1992 and this collapse fell to the cellar when free trade and an overt refusal to protect our borders from illegal aliens (yes, they are aliens as well as breaking the law!) flooded this field and drove out any citizens who were carpenters or brick layers, etc.  The housing boom coincided with a flood of cheap alien labor who worked under dangerous conditions and the profit from this flowed into the developer’s hands with contractors who benefited at first, losing their own jobs since they couldn’t communicate with their cheap labor.  So, the new immigration bill is filled with holes to allow big business to flood labor markets with cheap labor, except for builders who will be forced to hire Americans.

We have a big government system.  It runs mainly on debt due to no one showing much interest in funding it properly.  This government runs wars, usually against weak entities who are most often, disarmed by the UN first.  Occasionally, the imperial rulers are tempted to make war with rivals who are growing stronger.  This usually ends badly.  Right now, the imperial ‘bread for peace in the streets’ system is being deliberately ended by one faction in Congress.  This will have interesting side effects as Marie Antoinette learned the hard way.  Before her home regime collapsed, her husband Louis XVI and he fellow nobles ran a huge spy machine to keep track of revolutionaries and trouble makers.  This was a spectacular failure when economic conditions intervened.
