Well, you know the gold bugs are pretty stupid. Over at the Silver Bear, they always have an article featuring a rocket ship blasting off and some kind of headline saying Gold to reach $5000 or something like that.
So what if it does? Like Mike pointed out above, it will not make you rich. Gold has already reached $5,000 plus in dollars — in Zimbabwe. Does anyone want their dollars?
I don’t see much use for gold and silver anymore. No one really wants “honest money” (whatever that is), since that means working at an honest trade and not being filthy rich. Goldbugs want to be rich, which is why they constantly measure their gold’s worth in dollars. They don’t have a clue as to what they will do with all their gold and silver when it can no longer be traded for a lavish lifestyle.
Silver has disinfectant properties, so it is kind of useful. Gold’s permanence makes it useful for religious objects and such, which is how it was mainly used in the past. Silver is good for that too, and also giving extra life to black and white photographs.
Using gold and silver for circuitry on the warhead of a cruise missile is totally insane, but our civilization has become insane.
I think the most valuable material thing I own is my rifle.
